You are right. Tirth!!

There is only one notification for Pellet import which has ZERO clarity.

All I can say is that the LAW MAKERS are smart

Tirths,

What do you have to say about the 4th post in the 2nd page of this thread ?

Additionally, there are many resources which agree that individual registered shooters can import pellets
on their own. For e.g. http://www.financialexpress.com/news/ze ... ng/386341/ ( second paragraph).

You are right about the notification , just want to know what do you think about these.

Sujay,

Thanks so much for your effort.

I am not sure how effective will it be for the UPS clearance team to convince the customs guy with this notification.

However the UPS clearance guy said Customs is not responding for their queries when it comes to pellets.

Govt needs to release proper notifications for import of pellets by club members.

Dear friends,
If any item is classified as restricted and not mention any exceptions by DGFT and if you wanted to import those items you have to have an IEC (Import Export Code) getting an IEC is essay, but then you have to submit a detailed application to DGFT and it has to be approved by the Export Import Facilitation Committee (EFC) for you to import.
that is my understanding on this subject.

Please find one of such meeting's minutes (It is available as a public document in DGFT web site)
look at the 29th entry ( I made it in Bold)

Even though the government had allowed the free duty import of .177 air rifle and air pistols earlier, they had a duty on

No, government first made import of .177 air rifle and air pistols 'free' to registered members, not 'duty free' later they made it 'duty free' too. But in the case of .177 pellets they only made it 'duty free' not free to import.

Thats a crazy notification.

I really don't know how UPS is going to handle this situation.

I wish they are going to be helpful.

Actually you have to stand your ground and show that you know the rules better than them. A great trick a friend taught me is ask the guy to give it to you in writing and take his name etc. down. But be prepared to lose the pellets. When they see that crazy righteous gleam in your eye they do back down.

Import duty on .177 Match Air Rifle

Post by ksharath78 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:49 am

Hi,

Could you please provide me information related to import of Match Air Rifle. I read in the posts that .177 caliber air rifle import is duty free. One of my friend is returning from Germany, I am planing to get one air rifle form there. Will there be any complication?

Thanks
