H&K applies for permission to sell the G36 in the US market

Post by xl_target » Wed Nov 27, 2013 11:13 am

Heckler and Koch has applied for permission (from the German Govt.) to sell the G36 to civilians in the European and US markets.
Obviously these will be semi auto versions. I'm not sure how it will take before we can have these in our sweaty little hands but I'm sure it won't be very soon.

The current obsession with a profusion of piccatiny style rails stuck allover the gun is reaching the level of being downright annoying.... hideous in most cases.

...some of the more intelligent ones will wonder why the government of Hong Kong is being so benevolent to the citizens of India...

Sorry TC and CC,
It was late and I was excited.
I have made changes to the title and text of the post so they are more informative.

I really think the HK missed the boat though. The G36 is not a young design anymore and the FN SCAR has made great inroads with the "tactical" crowd.

After some serious reflection though, as much as I like the teutonic mechanical perfection and cosmetics of the G36; if I had to settle for just one "Evil Black Rifle", I'd much rather have a Tavor. I fell in love with that petite little Sabra the first time I got my hands on her. She may not be a beauty queen but she just oozes character and would most likely be more reliable in a tough spot than some gorgeous piece of European hardware.
Flame me all you like but handling the Tavor and the SCAR16 side by side made the SCAR seem like an unwieldy piece of crap. With the Tavor, it was easier to hit targets when standing and with the rifle unsupported. At 50 yards, my off-hand group sizes with the Tavor were half the size of my groups shot with the SCAR.

Type 97 NSR was just introduced in canadian market with non restricted status , bull pup design , Looks really neat. Cant be compared with scar or tavor but the price part is really attractive .

XL, I only cracked a joke on seeing the title... just for fun. There was no really no need to change the title.

I completely agree with you on the Tevor and thankfully the Indian Army and some paramilitary forces including the Border Security Force are getting these to replace the Insas, assortment of AKs and the leftover FALs. I was lucky enough to cradle a Tavor while on an official tour to the Bengal -Bangladesh border few months ago. Two BSF jawans were patrolling the banks of the Padma and one of them was generous enough to let me "feel" his rifle. The man was all praises and said, "this is the best rifle I have ever handled." The soldier who had been under fire in Kashmir earlier made perfect sense.
I will be firing the Tavor in a couple of months. Am sure the experience will be a pleasant one.

Cheers

Hey TC... I know this sounds rather pedantic, but only the Army SF and MARCOS employ the Tavor, the CRPF/COBRA combine use the X95 which essentially is a significantly simplified Tavor... different enough to be...well... different. I didn't know the BSF had these...the only recent fancy hardware they'd got, as far as I know would be the Beretta MX4. The Tavor is a fine rifle and firing it is obviously more than a pleasant experience.... all my shooting so far has been at 25m at figure-11s so I can't comment on how well it sings at longer ranges. Even so, it was immensely enjoyable peppering those evil paper targets. My only crib (which probably is just nitpicking) is the battery powered Meprolight optics...which once in a while falls prey to absentmindedness.

...and XL.... if the Tavor tops your menu, you're not wrong. It's a good one.

Hi Cottage Cheese,
You could be correct about the marine commandos and paras because I really did not check the rifle long and close enough to find out if the BSF jawan was carrying a TAR 21 or an X95. Both have similar appearance. I just knew it was a Tavor and seeing one in a remote Bengal village was thrilling enough.
I will check the stuff out in detail when I go for the shoot.
