The sear adjustment might have gone wrong, as I can understand from what you say. Did you fiddle a lot with your trigger pull weight specially the 2nd stage weight? If it is under guarantee and you have the possibility to get it back quickly, get it repaired as soon as possible.
Otherwise you can try yourself. If it is a steyr mechanical trigger you will need to manipulate the forbidden screw marked in red. Make sure that the AP chamber is empty. Cock the gun for dry firing mode. Turn the forbidden screw clockwise till the trigger breaks. Turn the screw anticlockwise by 1/4th turn. The problem should be solved.

Dear Tirpassion et al,

Subsequent to our conversation, sharing today's diary page.

1. Went in full & usual shooting attire - have been using headband last couple of times. Refrained the use of glasses though had them handy. Used the headband; it's adequate - nothing fanciful. Did not use any blinder; shut right eye for every shot.

2. Checked the trigger; found that it was slightly on the softer side. Tightened the slack or the first pull a bit. Used a half filled Camlin "fountain" pen with two Rs. 5 coins on the standard 500 gm weight to compensate for extra 50 gm hopefully. The two coins would weigh 25 gm or thereabouts. The trigger weight was thus taken care of.

3. The slim grip (after having removed the M-Seal) is probably the problem zone, though the hand is getting used to it. The palm rest (shelf below) was slightly tilted and lifted up from behind to give a better fit since its width is even < 30 mm. It felt somewhat OK. Will follow your advice and get the saw dust + fevicol to increase the material. Today being Monday, h/w shops in Dadar-Thane closed. Will ask about the "golden" fevicol tomorrow. As discussed last night it's a slimmed down version of size "M" whereas I would need size "XL" or "L".

4. Shot 6 cards with 10 each and then 20 shots on one single card seated with shooting arm supported by the left. Carried BD for SA bda on all 80 shots.

5. Started with both cylinders pumped up to 185-190 bar

Observations:

1. BD (80 shots) = 80% & DS (60 shots) = 75% -> Better than last two times (Sep 6th & 12th) also in terms of scores.
2. Scores summation (4-card & 6-card) not as per desired
3. 2/60 shots on #6 and 5/60 in #7
4. The shots seem to have shifted UP till 165 bar and fallen down to level till 150 bar
5. 2/4 and 3/6 cards showed grouping of 6 shots or more

Now my Questions:

1. BD & DS both seem good,in fact better than previous events and yet the placement and scores did not translate to that extent. Where would I seemingly go wrong ? In DS more #9s did not do much good for those #8 and #7. How do I go about increasing my #10s ?

2. Cause of concern is not just those 8% #7 but those two #6 bang on the line. One of those shots was a mis-fire due to blank shot being fired right behind me. But it's still a bad shot and the reactionary pull on the trigger must be controlled - HOW ?

3. Why did the shots go UP and DOWN wrt pressure ? Was it really the pressure changes or the stance ? What do I do in such circumstances ? Adjust with clicks or stance ?

4. Granted that due to some reason or the other I have not been doing justice to the practice, but going forward next 15 days, how do I proceed ? A session/ day or two ? Continue the current LF and BD without going into any "extra" ? Or do something extra ?

I take my test on Oct 1-2 :-) Passing marks - 363/400. Crunch time ? ;-)

agn bhai,

Get your grip fixed first and then go to shoot. Please do not shoot with doubts in your head. You will only reinforce them and in turn they will punch a big blow to your moral and confidence. The result will be a calamity.

Dear Brihji,
Now why on the earth did this not strike me earlier ? In fact I have made an AP trigger shoe that I would like the Doc to take a look at. :-)

BTW guys, I typed a mail today post my trip to the range that seems to have mysteriously disappeared. :?: Anyway, in short, did good prax with DS of 80% and BD of 78% on 100 shots. Used medley of pellets for the first 60 (20/card) and H&N FM for the last 40 (10/card). All the 4 cards showed good grouping.

Dear all, A few things:

1. Have decided to postpone the grip work till after the GFG since I think I am getting somewhat of a 'feel'. Not too much bothered about the scores now, since NZ and WZ are bound to come up soon. That's taken a load off for now.
2. My BD on SA (bda) now seems to have settled between 75-80%. With another week to go, it could be cool to get it up to 85%, i.e. peak at the right time.
Today I practiced at the other range with smaller cutout cards (square around the #5 ring, I think). BD = 76% (for 100 shots) & DS = 75% (for 40 shots). Wish the DS would steady at 80% or above.
3. Thinking of increasing the wrist exercises to beyond normal "warming/ toning" so as to reduce the "dips" and thus increase the BD(SA(bda)). But not sure if it's a great idea to start now. Or do I wait for these 10 days to pass and then take it up ?

To all the participants, Good Luck for your GFG prax and the same for your results. Hope between us, someone pumps up a medal or two. (JITUBHAU - You tuned in ? :-) )

1. Keep your elbow rested on a table while holding a 1kg dumbell & rotate your wrist - 1st clockwise (10reps) & anti-clockwise (10reps) - Do 3 sets each of 10 reps.
2. Suspend a 1kg or 2kg weight (the type footpath bhajiwalla's use) by a cord (length = from your outstretched arms while standing) that touches the floor...
the other end of the cord to be tied to a 1 1/2ft long x 2" od wooden shaft.
Now stand & hold the 'Gizmo' with your arms outstretched (parallel to the floor)....
Slowly rotate your wrists alternately to 'wind-up' the suspended weight till it reaches the wooden shaft.... Now reverse the rotation of your wrists to slowly lower the suspended weight.
Do 10 reps each x 3 sets.
> The above 2 execises will strengthen your wrists & forearm - to give you a steady hold of your AP.
Good Luck & Happy Shooting :D

Had a marathon session - 4 back-to-back "matches" of 40 each. Used various permutations, MS(Y) v/s H&N pellets; glasses v/s "open sight" :-) Did not adjust the sights but stayed fully concentrated on SOA and SA. Objective was to test endurance and my (mental v/s physical) response at various stages of the innings. Response was fairly deliberate and consistent and surprisingly so were the results. Tomorrow will try to have a serious timed match or two and then will pick up the AP next month. :-)
Good Luck Jitu and amarinder.

dear all
i am finally back after a long layoff. new place , new work and new time schedules. plus no range to visit within the new time schedule. so had zilch prac. but i wanted to see where i was . hence took part in the g f g. everything including my hold, grip and the trigger pull appeared foreign. the prac session during the match was surprisingly good with a lot of 10s. then came the match. felt a bit at sea. the grip shook in the aiming zone and the trigger got pressed when i least expected it. first shot 6. but tried to stick to the basics and the score was 88, 86,81, 85. the third set went bad cause one shot just went before i could bring it to the aiming area and scored a 5. need to start again with basic holds/ fig 8s and trigger pulls. gurujan please advice.

Dear all,

Though expectations were on the cards, they were whitewashed. :-( All literally so ! While the progress was good on the card targets, on the ETS at GFG it was a different ball game altogether. That Gagan Narang's GFG (since that's how it's advertised) continued to treat the "NR" guys as foster children did not help either.

Sep 30th was the Day of "P" while Oct 1-2 was when the matches were supposed to be played out. Somehow the 29th suddenly became the day of "P" and 30th became the start of "C". No notice to the shooters - neither in email nor sms nor nothing. It was in the afternoon around 1500-1530 of 29th that I came to know through the grapevine of this twist in the tale. I have experienced a 15-minute pre-ponement but PRE-PONEMENT BY AN ENTIRE DAY ?!!! But then who-the-beep cares about "NR" anyway, except probably their registration fees ?

Anyway, since could not avail of any practice session, setting of AP on the ETS at Balewadi was out of question. Did whatever I could during the "sighter" period. Huge rush and huge chaos. The MH manager had to do the WC for APs as well. Got the weapon check done in the evening, after hours of waiting, for the 1930 detail that started well after 2000. The match was finally over and I finally out back into the car for late night drive to Mumbai around 2215 after a brief call to Jitu. All through the day, I languished around the stadium basking in the sun trying to lose some weight through sweating. My BP had shot up since two days and by the time I was done at night, I had "two over-fried (blackened) medu wadas under my eyes" (as per a friend) or "appeared to have got bashed up in a fight" (as per my wife) who saw me around 1230. In fact I had never seen myself like that ever was a fact even I attested to after viewing myself in the bathroom mirror. Did not take any medication, since was not sure if it was allowed or what effect it would have on me. Now enough of whining. :-)

Like I said progress was only on cards, but ETS saw me land 5 shots in whites, hence the whitewash. One in each set; the second had two. 3 in #7. ALL of my #8s were perfect 8.9 -> added on to the frustration. Of the #9s only one was a 9.3; the rest again 9.8 or 9.9. Of the #10s, one was a perfect 10.9, by mistake. After the first two white-shots, pressure suddenly grew upon me and I could sense the tension. Nothing I did now shook it off. I started seeing the target more clearly than the SA and that led to even more aborts and time pressure. Of the 5, 3 shots in the white were result of MISFIRE, when I was coming into the Aiming Zone. Quite a few times, I noticed that my index finger was not placed correctly on the trigger shoe and had to call off the shots. In short, my preparation - technical and mental had gone for a toss. I shot only 50%, 20/40 in #9s/ #10s -> 7 in #10 and 13 in #9.

I chose and stayed with MS(Y) pellets. I chose with the older version of my grip by removing the m-Seal layers, which I plan to work on now. I chose to stay on with the rear sight status quo, though I suspected that its spring needed a re-look. I chose and stayed with the fact that below 150 bar of pressure my pellets tended to leap a bit and may be the seal in the reservoir needed a peek. These are the things that I now intend to fix before the NZ.

(@dev-> please let me know when the dates are out for NZ)

So giving only nominal credit to the outside factors, I shall take full responsibility for 85, 81, 80, 85 for a total of 311. The good thing was BD on SA & SOA was a healthy 80% (31/40) - so that's what I brought back with me, other than that advertisement-laced tee-shirt for my kiddo.

hey hvj and tir
i had a good shooter sitting behind me when i took the shoot. he is a common wealth gold medalist in 25m. he feels the following went wrong
- arm not prepared as there was no prac hence it was shaking like a dry leaf when it had to be held in the aiming area. needs strengthening through holds and fig 8s
- breathing was ragged. need to do a lot of pranayam etc to get smooth breathing going
- trigger finger lacks prac and muscle memory. need to do a session of dry firing daily and regular live firing too
- lateral mov of shots on the tgt on both sides of the bull. balance of the body is not correct and stance is too much at an angle making the body sway to and fro
Now these were his comments. personally the arm was shaking so much in the aiming zone that i just could not decide when i should begin the triggerr pull. it was more often than not happening on its own. that is why a lot of 7s and one 6 and one 5.
now in the light of the above please advice
