I wonder how many weapons made it out of J&K without being intercepted!

Unlike what the antis will have you believe the AK's & machine guns are not going to be issued/ sold to VIPs, since they are current 'service pattern' these are usually issued to military/ paramilitary/ police forces for their use. From what I've been told by serving personnel AK's are preferred over INSAS by troops engaged in CI-OPs .
If they have recovered 11,576 pistols/ revolvers over 23 years of insurgency, that is hardly a figure worth commenting on... any largish village in UP probably has more illegal handguns than that (including of course the ubiquitous desi katta)... considering the Government policies, not surprisingly these illegal guns are mostly owned by otherwise law abiding folk, who just don't have the clout/ wherewithal to acquire an arms license and a legal gun - BUT value their/ their families lives & property enough to go acquire the only available means for their self-defence.
Cheers!

The figure appears to be on the higher side for a single village.

Totally OT, but when will the media learn that the "AK56" is actually Type 56, and is Chinese?
The number of UMGs, GPMGs, and sniper rifles is actually scary! (provided the reporter got it correct).

Re: 50,000 weapons seized in J & K.
pistols and revs are hardly captured now-a-days,its mainly ak series since any militant who surrenders with an ak gets 50k xtraa from state govt, pistols & revs are mostly pb bore or pak/chinese 7.62 pistols, snipers are extinct weapons amongst terrorists, the greatest menace are pistols with silencers, off late for last 3-4 years they have killed in broad daylight crpf and police personel at pattan, baramulla, and recently handwara these are menace u never come to know 9mm with silencer from within a feeran point blank range u r dead meat...but the actual score is much higher "haathi kee daant khane kee aur dikhane ke aalaag hotee hainn"

Gladiatorgarg,
Silencers do not completely silence a firearm.Your post is also difficult to read. Some of it I could not understand. Can you back your comments about the new menace from suppressed pistols with a reliable source?

Re: 50,000 weapons seized in J & K.
winnie the source is very reliable since that's myself, in the recent past 2-3 yrs their have been atleast 7 hit n run cases with silenced 9mm pistols in busy crowded streets and roads in broad daylight even in the upmarket polo road where a business man from sopore was gunned down and people around did not even come to know before they saw the blood oozing from his wound, and the list includes at lest 4 CRPF jawans 2/3 state pol personal of which i am aware of their may be few more unfortunate souls...infact i was at polo road barely 10 mtrs away from a well known leather shop where i was doing some purchasing before proceeding on my hard earned leave where that person was shot down .....why its a menace??because in an active urban CI envioronment its has become very difficult to identify your enemy who is meticulously choosing his targets who is not carrying an AK rather a more concealable and effective weapon...with which he his achieving his target l but the law enforcing agencies are at loss to stop him because he is literally invisible...this is a practical problem which boot on the ground faces...and believe me its a menace...it can scare many a brave soul..
