pellet seater advantage
Advantage of pellet seater in my IHP 35 .177
Normal reading without Pellet seating
Pellets Used Shot 1 Shot 2 Shot 3 Shot 4 Shot 5 Avg
Keihberg 670 679 677 672 674 675
RWS 706 705 701 694 710 703
Diana Shot 641 637 625 634 648 637
Reading after Pellet seating
Pellets Used Shot 1 Shot 2 Shot 3 Shot 4 Shot 5 Avg
Keihberg 711 710 711 713 717 712
RWS 748 744 745 747 748 746
Diana Shot 719 709 714 711 716 714
You can see the increase in FPS is Diana Shot is about 77 FPS around 10 -12 %.
In Keihberg & RWS increase in FPS is 35 to 45 that is around 5 -6 %.
So without tuning the air gun we can increase the FPS around 10 % on Indian make pellets

Dear Pratik,
It may be a small , but very nice research work being done by you.
Diana shot, to my mind, is not available in this part of the country.
I wish , in case you make same research for Gsmith or Mastershot, that would be of lot of help for all of us .Thanks a lot.

Re: pellet seater advantage
Thanks Briha Sir I will try to get mastershot pellets
Regarding pellet seater when I was doing basic shooting course in Veer Savarker we use to push pellets into the barrel using screw driver
Please check the link for very cheap pellet seater can be used with .177 & .22
http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/th ... let+seater
Today only I brought this stereo jack from Lamington Road for Rs. 10/- & tested it with Diana shot pellets readings in fps 700,696,681,691,702
When I use small screw driver I am getting average FPS around 714 means this stereo jack is not pushing the pellets perfectly to get max FPS
As per my R&D we need to push the pellets around 5 mm deep inside the barrel to get max FPS
Please read this blog for the advantage of pellet seater
http://airgun-academy.pyramydair.com/bl ... et-seater/
Briha Sir I have brought one stereo jack for you & for other IFGians this stereo jack is easily available in any electronics shop

Re: pellet seater advantage
In my humble opinion any ballpen can be used as a pellet seater and I think it pushes the pellet just enough to get the desired results.

Re: pellet seater advantage
Pellet seaters may well improve the FPS but more so importantly it will aid in accuracy. However impovements are slight and therefore not necessary for the casual shooter but something rather more for the avid professional shot.

Re: pellet seater advantage
Hi JP
Normally after tuning air rifle we get 10-15 % increase in velocity & you need a good gunsmith for that plus you have to spend at list Rs. 3000/- for it.
But using pellet seater you are getting 10 % increase in velocity plus as you say aid in accuracy without any investment.
So why don’t use this simple technique.
Hi AK49
Yes any ball pen can be used as a pellet seater
But stereo jack can very handy tool for fixing bent pellet skirts
Regards,
Pratik

Re: pellet seater advantage
Here is an alternative -
if you are consistently using one brand of pellet that refuses to sit well into the breech then apart from using a pellet seater you can slightly widen the breech hole by using some fine emery, i personally know someone who has done this oh his IHP and this has resulted in Gsmith pellets being seated flush with the breech, performance has improved after this.
Try

Hi there!
> Good suggestion - however if you widen the breech to accomodate GSmith pellets, the others viz. Mastershot / Dianashot etc. may wind up fitting loose - in which case you may have to use a "Pellet Seater".

> The whole idea is to get maximum velocity without compromising on accuracy - if this means 'sticking' to one type / brand of pellet - so be it!
