Heartiest congratulations Moin. :D :D
You confirmed it once again persistance pays.

A parcel was delivered to my address today from Kolkata, I hope it is from KKHI. Sadly there is no one at home to check and confirm. As I am in Delhi with my family members.I feel really sad that I can not open that packege and hold those master pieces right away but will have to wait for another 2 weeks.

Regards.

I am sure that the Churi shall immediately find space in my bug out bag.

It will nudge out the BK2 for the time being. The BK2 is the best camp knife I have used. Once I handled the BK2 I had always thought that it was going to be my companion for ever. Though it is a lot heavier to carry, the BK2 gives me the versatility that I have always hungered for in a blade in the woods.

I think I shall still carry the BK2 or the recently fondled BK7 for serious camping. But for the short trips, maybe the Churi is just right. Cheap, cheerful, versatile, easy to sharpen, convex grind, full tang, great blade ergonomics, a comfortable wooden handle. All I need to do is create a new sheath with Moin The Master Bladesmith :)

And the American Eagle will hopefully retire my old khukri. The old lady has served me for years and I think she deserves some TLC, rest and affection now. Its the time for the Eagle to bite deep into dead wood and stay securely nested in my gear.

The WW2 khukri will stay at home. Somewhere safe but close to me. My Zombie Insurance :)

Persistance does pay but not too often, my case has never worked with the ladies :D

Not sure which models you ordered. When you do please post some pics.

Thanks Bruno :D :D Was a strange mix of pain and pleasure handlingthe khuks last night. Maybe just maybe me and slingshot had set our expectations high considering the fact that KKHI apparently supplies Khuks the the Gorkha Regiment of the British Army and looking at the fancy photography on the website.

Chief the Chrur''s a real gem of a blade, you will instantly fall in love it it. Very well balanced and a thick thick spine. Will serve you well. Comparing it with the Becker is like comparing a state of the art Hummer to our Humble Mahindra Jeep

Collect the blades over the week end and let's have your unbiased reviews too.... :D

Nice! Can one also choose not to have the blades chrome/ Nickel plated? Or is that a standard/ no option finish on all their blades?

Cheers!

Hi Abhijeet, you can choose any finish options. The blades are buffed to a mirror finish. There's no Nickel or Chrome plating.

You can give them your design and specs and they will make the blade for you. How well and how seriously that is done is a different deal altogether.

We had requested for a lanyard and a snug fitting sheath for the Churi. I sent them an image as well for reference and got a confirmation email that It will be done. Unfortunately has been missed out in the blade.

I've read some very nice reviews on the internet for KKHI, but I guess they take the "Gora" orders i.e being shipped to the US and UK more seriously that the Indian ones.

Hi Abhijeet,

They do have various models that are not mirror polished. They also have models that are blued. KKHI is generally happy to custom build a blade for you as well. So any modifications that you need should be possible. However, as Moin and I have discovered, they can make promises that they might not keep.

I had specifically asked for a lanyard hole in the Churi and that the sheath be a snug fit. However, there is no lanyard hole and the sheath is loose enough to be actually dangerous to house a 5 inch blade. So, I think its best not to order modifications.

Cheers, Slingshot

Finally!!

Congratulations!

Just one suggestion: Mail a link of this extensive review to Khukuri House so they know that people here are not to be taken for granted and they know the product.Their (Khukuri House's)reputation is at stake so they should care for their customers no matter where they are based. That they will be known by the quality of their products, attention to details and promptness of service for whatever it is worth.

:agree:

These are good blades Bruno. And I guess I set rather higher expectations based upon the pictures of the khukri's on their site. The pictures on their website look absolutely stunning.

But somewhat disappointed with the finishing. however more irked with the wrong blade geometry. I agree that these are hand forged blades and will have their quirks. However, to actually get a khuk with a different blade geometry, as Moin has pointed out, is a bit deflating. I can understand that the fit and finish might vary.

No! No, you should not agree with this (although not much may be done now about it) that this difference in blade geometry comes from the fact that these were handcrafted. I know handcrafted products, there might be a difference in the finish / colour or some marks or spots here and there or other minor quirks and there but apart from this there should have been no difference. I have seen lines of handcrafted products all exactly identical. After all there are craftsmen working on these in a organised export based production unit and this is not a result of amateur craftsmanship.

You are simply being nice and understanding :)
