Feel free to add.Surprisingly was not able to find much on the net besides drawings of sikhs/akalis.Re. other communities what you get on the net are drawings/paintings of Rajas/rulers and almost none of the ordinary soldiers of pre-British times

I think I did not clarify why I started this thread.Just a way of showing that restrictions on firearms and other arms is an alien concept in India.Feel free to add drawings/sketches/lithographs/paintings of ARMED INDIANS from the past.

The Brown sahibs ruling India are in many ways worse than the gorras that they replaced.Pakistan has the older Arms Act in place and is more liberal in matters of owning firearms with the Federal govt. issuing licenses even for fully automatic firearms.Look at where India is going in terms of private ownership of arms.

The effect of dominance of certain vested interests at the centre, perhaps?

all the talk about restrictions on the legal ownership of firearms really makes me laugh!!In the north east millitants openly carry firearms(most of which are far superior than what our security forces have),have an almost unlimited supply of ammo!!!!And when a person like me,owning legal firearms with valid licences goes to buy ammo or carries them,I have to answer a whole lot of questions!!maybe the babus should should get their butts out of their airconditioned office rooms and see the reality on the ground.

Good point Winnie owning weapons for protection was a very common practice in India for centuries just like the Sikhs above every region and race Maratha Rajputs et al carried weapons and had militias. Basically RKBA was a right until the Brits took over and started mitigating the risk for revolution shut down the armories ( for example Aligarh etc known for locks were actually armories before they switched their trade) and the same practice is being carried over by the Babudom and Indian politicos. Its regime's insecurity and are afraid of insurgency due to their bad governance no wonder India is already a land of million revolutions. In some respects white sahibs were simply replaced by the local lords. Another tragic consequence is folks in India have lost all of their awareness on using guns and Gun is depicted as a 'bad thing' which leads to unnecessary fights and deaths. There is this Indian channel in NYC have this Indian couple who acts as DJ and regale jokes , One of the joke was about some Indian community who conduct pooja for the gods to bless their weapons , these fresh off the boat jokers were making fun of this ritual and then flashed that idiotic caricature of Quick gun Murgun

Things havent changed-I saw a Nihang in 1990's with a 315, a sword, spear,dagger, pistol and a horse...kewl guy.

Yup Nihangs probably will fight this rule the most because these folks do travel across more than three states with their weapons e.g. Anandpur to Nanded ( MH). Wish they could all ride up on Rajpath in their columns to protest this law some sight..

Saw a UK TV program on history/militray channel where a person went to a Nihang band in India to train on 'Chakra or Chakram' the round metal disc like band seen on the pugree and being carried in pictures above, cant find the clip.

Nice post M24

Talking about Nihangs, recently when I was in North saw a convoy of Nihangs, I've lived most of my life in North but this was the first time I saw something like this. In front a flag bearer on a nice Marwari Stallion. Two more behind him on horses. One carrying a double barrel and a bandolier full of cartridges, other a spear. Horse carts behind them full of camp material.

Now that is RKBA for you, something which even ordinary Sikhs are forgetting.

Nothing can happen in this country until guns loving people like us come out of our closets. We need to bring this issue on road. Right now PC and page 3 sh$t is killing INDIA. Even media is more interested in facebook ban in Pakistan than freedom of INDIANS.

I feel so frustrated in this country and I can't do much about it

Heres another one of a maratha soldier. Ive always admired this painting for its accurate description of a soldiers physique. Thin like a whiplash, no excess fat as characterised by the six pack, simple appearence, sunburnt skin, assymetrical body with the right side more muscular than the left due to it being the sword hand or the fighting hand.

I remember when I was in Britain visiting gun shops and the talk turned to anti-gun laws. I spoke well of the NRA,and said that their support and pre-election postcards to members meant a LOT of votes here. The gunshop owners replied that there was no one to vote for as candidates were ALL anti-gun.

It shook me up to hear it. I sent a check to the NRA and bought some more guns and ammo immediately on my return.

Gun politics AFAIK is unique to the US.
