Carrying antique swords out of India

Hi All!

I had posted earlier, but apparently it was on the wrong forum. It wasent intentional - I have to familiarize myself more with our site.

Could somebody advise me if it would be possible for me to take some swords which are heirlooms out of India on a transfer of residence basis. I really would like to take these along with me, but I certainly dont want the risk of these beauties ending up in some customs officials house!!

Those mounties on canadian border ( thats where u are headed?) always quetsion any guns,etc... never swords. Dont trust this but look up their custom rules or sites.

These are family herilooms and can be considered as antiques so it should work. Did you try email or contacting them via phone in India?

Export of antiques out of India is severely restricted and you will need to get a certificate from the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) office, stating that the swords are NOT antiques!

Their Delhi office for this sort of work is located within Safdarjung's Tomb, New Delhi.

i recently gifted a genuine antique sword dating to 1700's to someone from oz.
as far as i know, he had no problem carrying it abroad ( he still has it in oz) as he prooved it was a family heirloom.
I cant say what the rules are in oz or canada. but i was referring to the rules from the indian side.
