I am Niaz Khan basically from bangalore and nowadays staying in london.
I had applied for a licence couple of years back and last year i got the approval but since i have been abroad, i am not able to buy one till yet. I was hoping to buy one when i come to india for my holidays this year. While searching for information on buying guns in india, i came across this site and felt that i could get a lot of information from the experts gun users in India and hoping to build a good knowledge of it myself for safe use.
kind regards
niaz khan

Welcome aboard just curious what are the rules for time period once can defer a purchase of a gun? Did you get approved for Shotgun/rifle or a pistol/revolver? Recommend purchasing a place holder e.g. IOF .22 rifle or Indian Shotty or IOF made pistol/revolver. Guns hold their values well and you could swap them later on.

Re: Hello everyone
Thanks a lot for the warm welcome, farhan and grewal.
I had applied for an all india pistol licence and got the licence approved somewhere in first quarter of 2009 and its purchasing period validity is a year. As i wasn't in india, i wasn't able to buy in that period and had my purchasing period extended for an year. I believe i could buy it till nov-dec 2010 now. i had a talk with my bro regarding it and he told me that once the licence is approved, i can get the purchasing period extended as much i want, though i am not so sure about it.
I would like to know if IOF ASHANI is good for starters or should i go for more reliable ones. I am worried about the cost, availability and genuineness of the imported pistols in india. I have a budget of around 2 lacs to start with and if you guys could help me with a good pistol that would be reliable i would indeed be indepted.
Also how much time would it take me to buy an ASHANI from an kolkatta ordnance factory because its website mentions only a months time wait period and i have heard of a year waiting period in this site.
Thank again
Kind regards
