I would really love to give the Two Bore to the Maharajah of Whiskeypore to shoot. I would even pay to watch it.

Dear mundaire,
the two bore is intended to be used as a shoulder gun. I mean theoretically it can be tied to a but (but so can a 12 bore) but its not intended for that purpose.
It is much smaller than a punt gun. A punt gun is operated by a string but it has no butt for mounting on the shoulder. Currently there is no gun in the punt because its off season and the gun is resting in the safe place. Come season and the gun goes on the punt.
The two and four bores are very cumbersome. I met a wildfowler Mr. A who had a 2 bore which was HEAVY (for the recoil) and showed me how to use it.
Irrespective of ones strength, these guns are very difficult to swing/control and arent meant to be used for a variety of angles like quartering away, crossers, going away etc etc.

The best shot one can take on the wings is on the incoming angle. Raise it over the head. That way a lot of weight and and recoil is taken on by ones body column. Shoot the Bu****s straight up he said.
when held like that they feel much lighter and on can pivot them on ones shoulder very much like a driven incoming from the tower stand in sporting.
Due to their rarity and hence the cost, most big bore guns dont see the harsh corrosive conditions of wildfowling nowa days. They are mostly for collectors and are collectables.
I see people shooting geese with 10 bores but a lot of people are switching to supermagnums.

Recently fired 50g loads 3.5" super magnums.

Im telling you, if you cant get geese with that, im not sure what u need.
Personally i would not even use those loads.

But this is about wing shooting.
If you want to change to sitting ducks, well thats another story.

As for the "Maharaja of Whiskeypore".
He would prefer to fire this cannon from someone elses shoulder.

Vikram, your writeup is a gem! Not only about the gun and the wow factor of such a huge arm, but also the description of the countryside, a little history and local color, some relaxation and swapping stories, pics of the barbecue -- in short, I think you have all sides covered regarding a fine firearms outing.

Don't worry about the rats being a no-show. That's common enough. We used to shoot 'em in dumps. The good thing about it was that when there were no rats, an occasional aerosol can on a hot day could liven up the outing!!

The night pic was icing on the cake!

And please, would you all stop mentioning the Maharaja of Whiskeypour? Thoughts come into my mind and I have to stuff my fist in my mouth to keep from howling. I'm glad I didn't read this at work! (wink wink) Vikram, your comment especially gave me an image of a obsequious someone behind him when the Maharaja fired ... well, you can fill in the blank, as my imagination conjured up some vivid images.

MoA, while that 2 bore being shot in the video is not small,it's a rifle shooting a 2500grains bullet over 12 drams of powder. The one built by J uses 24 drams of powder and belches out shot equal to 3500 grains.Almost twice the charge.

Great write-up and pics, Vikram. England outdoors is definitely beautiful. I guess with that Moon shooter, you don't need to fire at the birds. Just poke them with loooooooong barrel.
