Buying additional weapons on License

Post by nbatta » Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:33 am

Hi

I have follwoing query regarding purchase of addl weapon on my license:

- My license is issued from Haryana and had 3 weapons(Rifle/Gun/Handgun)
- Its is issued from Haryana State and orignally valid within Haryana.
- I have a .32 revolver on my license which was later converted to ALL INDIA for Revolver/Pistol while i was in Haryana
- I changed my residence to Bhopal(MP) and got the license registered in Bhopal after approval from Haryana authorities

Now can i buy a rifle or a gun on the same license while living in Bhopal(MP). No weapon other than revolver has been purchased so far on the license?

Regards

Is the original permission date for weapon inspection issued by Haryana LA still valid? If not, the LA in Bhopal will have to extend the date so that the firearms may now be acquired and produced for inspection. Also in case the original inspection date is still valid, then the seller/dealer from whom you wish to purchase the firearms may want either an NOC or may want a fresh endorsement on the license. Either way it would be better to talk to your LA.

hi friend, if you have already got a revolver, you have to apply for a rifle and go through the same procedure as you did for revolver, you have to have a new licence for the rifle.hope this helps. :

Wrong !

There are some states where the permission to buy a NPB rifle/handgun/shotgun are given one by one and there are certain states where the purchase permission for all the three NPB firearms is given at the same time . The purchase permission and the subsequent "addition" of a NPB firearm is done on the same license . One does not require a new license for every firearm one buys.

My license has three weapons mentioned on it, against which i have purchased only a revolver. Now I am planning to buy a rifle against the same license hence my query. Anyways will make an application to the LA along with the copy of the license.

It's better if you ask this question from the LA Bhopal. Because in general one has to buy a weapon within one year of getting the permission . And in-case you do not buy the same your permission stands canceled unless you get it extended before the expiry of the original permission. And if your license is more than one year old i doubt you need to get fresh permission to buy a rifle

Hi darashp,

Your case seems to be the same as the initial one posted. And the reply given by pretty much everyone is to check with the Licensing authority. You also go ahead and do the same. Next time, please read through the whole thread and then ask the question. Also, please don't post in all caps as it is considered bad net-etiquette.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Either go for a new license . Or tell your uncle to retain the revolver for another few years till you exhaust the 5 year non transfer period and get the revolver after selling the current IOF weapon . You cannot have two revolvers endorsed on single license . It is better to have another license made . The effort of investing in new license will be worth while in the future also .

Not necessary since 5 year non transfer has nothing to do with getting another weapon endorsed on the license. All he has to do is pay the fees for endorsement of additional firearm on his license to get another firearm. He should go and contact the office of licensing authourity for the same.
You cannot have two revolvers endorsed on single license
I disagree, one person can have total of any combination of up to 3 firearms on one license or on multiple licenses. NRAI member can have up to total of 10 firearms on one or multiple licenses.

A common law abiding citizen can have only one firearm license issued to him and he can have three NPB firearms endorsed on it. The permission to buy the firearms can be given one by one or for all three at the same time by the concerned authority ( this differs from state to state) . After purchase all the firearms have to be duly entered in the license. According to the arms act the NRAI members can have a fourth firearm i.e. a .22LR rifle or a high powered air rifle endorsed on their license. The renowned shooters can have many more.
Getting more than one firearm licenses made under different name/address is a criminal offense and the punishment is severe.
