From personal experience calipers are absolutely indespensible. Micrometers one can still live without. Also if you are getting some, get the digital versions much easier to use.

:agree:

Sadly, I do not still have one....

Any suggestions for the digital caliper... brand, make, etc... need to buy one...

Mitutoyo : Top of the line.......
They are darn expensive...but a lifetime keeper….. and can be passed upon the next generations for the cost. :)

I love the digital vernier callipers and screw gauge ....the modern ones can also connect to your computers using USB.

I own this one http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?Tab ... &U=Strat15

I have no first hand exp with this one but I have heard these are good

Hi Sniper / gverma,
> The mechanics (not the persons, I mean the technology) of an air gun is based on the pure laws of physics - action / re-action / ergonomics / principle of mechanical engineering and metallurgy.
> The dimensions, tolerences etc. are very critical as the energy released is high per sq.ins, notwithstanding the accuracy of the weapon.
> So just like a doctor needs a stethoscope - vernier callipers are not only important but also critical.
> These days 'digital' vernier callipers are available to read the minutest measurements - its an un-avoidable expense if you are keen on dabbling with the internals of an air gun.
> For your information abroad 'air gauges' are used to measure dimensions & tolerences.
Cheers

Hi Brihachararan,

I dismantle and assemble my airgun frequently to change the spring and washer, I have never used a vernier caliper and micrometer screw gauge to measure anything in my airgun. Pls enlighten how I can use them and how it helps, I do not have a science background.

Prithveen.

Hi Drifter,
> For regular maintenance like the ones you do - you don't need the verniers.
> These are required while you are tuning your weapon, such as changing your powerplant, re-sizing the piston, making adjustments to the trigger sear / re-adjusting the trigger mechanism (changing parts), measuring the thickness of the main spring (if you are changing it, because any increase in the ID of the spring can cause wobble, when the spring is released (this may damage the powerplant & affect the accuracy of the weapon).
> I hope you have understood the basics now.

thanks for the info Brihacharan
,
I would like to re-size the piston where can I find it or how do I do it?. I want to make a 2 stage trigger for my ihp.
What all parts consist of the power plant?.

Off topic, I fit a scope to my airgun, but the problem is the accurecy does not stay the same eventhough I have fit a scope stopper. What could be the problem and how do I solve it.

I would appreciate some advice.

Hi Drifter,
> Resizing of piston & converting your trigger to 2 stage requires great precision & skill - wonder if local gunsmiths can do this? I advice you to contact IFGian Tirths, who will put you on the right track.
> As far as the scope is concerned - what brand / make is it? A scope without ASR technology (anti shock resistant) cannot work on an Air Rifle. Because air rifles recoil both forward & backwards - unlike powder powered rifles.
> If your scope does not have ASR then the cross-hairs within the scope go for a toss, each time you fire the weapon.
> The scope stopper will only arrest the 'creep' (to & fro) on the base mount.
> Suggest if possible you go in for a WALTHER 4 x 32 with Duplex Reticle + ASR.
Cheers

Hi Brihacharan,

I have a basic scope(cheap one) There are days when it is very accurate but most of the time it is out of shape. Well I need to invest in a good scope.
Could you explain about the breech.

Will get in touch with tirths reg 2 stage trigger.

Hi drifter,

> What do you mean by breech? I presume you mean 'Scope Creep' - am I right?
> As I mentioned earlier - ordinary scopes normally used on Powder Fired Weapons (centre fire or rim fire) cannot be used on Sring Actioned Break Barrel Air Rifles. Simply because these air rifles have a 2 way impact - forward when the piston is released when you fire & backward when the piston impacts the pellet.
> This dual forward & backward shocks cause mis-alignment in the scopes' interiors - the optics get loose and the cross hairs go out of alignment. Thus the scope gets damaged.
> Hence you need a Scope made with ASR technology. Hope I am clear. Good Luck.
Cheers
