Which DBBL?
Hello friends, Im looking for a good 12 Bore Double Barrel gun, short butt.
Ones I was able to see in the market along with aprox. prices:
-REX (Rajput) ~22k
-Bico ~22k
-BSA ~24K
-Compaco ~17k
-Simco(HP) ~ 30k
-Pfizer ~25k
-Bhati ~24k
I don't have much of an idea as to which is the best & what are the right prices.
Also, some guns had ejector & steel butt.
Please help me in selecting the best one at the right price.
looking forward to great suggestions!
Thanks

Re: Which DBBL?
Hi 32,why are people looking for the hockey butts shotguns i dont really understand ,?is it a style statement,a cpl of people i know bought these from Patiala, and most of these guns have a tendency to fire when one closes the breach,i would recommend a a New light from Jodhpur and try and get the one with a full butt, its more safe and easier and more accurate to fire with, dont go with what the Dealer says cause he will sell you the stuff that gets him the maximum margin. Also stay away from ejectors cause they tend not to eject after some use, stay with a gun with extactors.Look for Nakasi and also try to get in touch with someone who has got some stock of Mehar Singh,he has made some very good DBBLs specially with the EN 9 Steel.all the best

Re: Which DBBL?
Hi Kanwar, this is BSA Corp. Btw, is 24 too much for this?
I really like your signature.
@Amit: no its not the style statement factor but the ease of carrying that make me opt for the hockey butt.
Also, whats the use of a big butt when the barrel length is the same - 22/24".
The tendancy to do off on breach closure is a big concern though, if the reports are right.
In 12 gauge, accuracy is not much needed, I've seen people installing telescopes on 12 bore guns, can it get dumber than this!
Ok, so ejector can be left out of the list.
Mehar Singhs are medium size guns, checked out one but build quality was not upto mark. Will check out other egs.

Re: Which DBBL?
Okay so its something like "Bihar small arms" . I was thinking of English BSA guns and for them 24k is very low in prevalent Indian conditions.

The pistol grip DBBL shotguns that are there in the market are murder on the wrists.A short barreled shotgun with a proper butt is much more comfortable to fire and not all that unwieldy. That said, most of the stuff that is there in the market is junk.I said 'most' as what I have seen is all junk but I might have not seen all.

Re: Which DBBL?
IIRC this BSA would be Bharat Small Arms... I could be wrong though.
@ .32 - if you are thinking of carrying a shotgun for self defence, do remember that even with a shortened pistol type stock it will not really be concealable; on top of that you are doing away any real chances of hitting a target with consistency! Shotguns do well for home defence and field use, but I doubt if anyone would recommend you buy one as a "carry gun" - IMHO if you want to carry a gun for self-defence, nothing can beat a handgun.
@ Amit357 - the problem you describe (gun going off on closing the breech), has nothing to do with the shape of the stock, but in stead indicates a problem with the "lockwork" / internal mechanism. Amongst other things it could indicate worn out sears (in an old gun), but in a new gun this is simply unpardonable as it means either piss poor quality control and/ or terrible design! This is a serious problem and should be referred to a gunsmith ASAP.

Re: Which DBBL?
@Kanwar, yes Bihar small arms is more likely!
@Winnie, no doubt the standard butt guns would be more usable/comfortable.
The smaller ones are lighter, more carryable & almost do the same job. Its worth mentioning that one really doesn't need a sharp aim for a 12gauge.
About "junk", I sincerely don't have much ideas, maybe as you say!
@Mundaire, got your point but concealing is not the motive. Smaller guns are much more carryable in th esense that take smaller space, can go in the car easily or a bag, etc.
Yes, handguns are the best for the job but the cost difference is huge. These guns are no alternatives for handguns but can be kept as additional weapons.
The Guns going off on closing the breach needs further scrutiny & research. I think this should not apply to all small guns.
@Moa, this is was the first thing I asked the dealer! He replied ignorant of the medicine company, "Pfizer" is a very old & good make. I don't know anything more on this, maybe someone can shed more light.
Btw I have the pics. of some of the guns, will post them.
Also, is the silencer type of thing fitted to guns of any use or is just ornamental? I saw many guns with the silencer type of fitting at the end of the barrels. Some dealers said it serves some purpose, others dismissed it completely as ornamental.

Re: Which DBBL?
@ .32 - at the end of the day, it's your dime and you have to make the choice. I'll just say, do your research before spending any hard earned cash on something you may regret later.
About the "silencer type thing", I am not sure what you mean but am assuming these are some sort of perforated barrel extensions that make the gun look attractive (to some people ). There is no such thing as a "silencer" for a gun, as guns can never really be made completely silent.
You do have devices known as sound "moderators", but these are not allowed for general use in India. Officially they are classified under Category 1(d) of Schedule I of the Arms Rules 1962 and licenses for them (as per Schedule II of the Arms Rules 1962) are to be separately obtained from the local Distt. Magisterate, though I've never ever seen such a license and I very much doubt that if you applied for one, anyone in the administration would know how to deal with your application (read this to mean it will be instantly denied).
All of the above apart, sound moderators for guns work on the same principle as the sound mufflers used in car/ motorcycle engines - it is hardly rocket science to design or build one! Of course if you are using supersonic ammunition (almost all 12 ga ammo you will find in India) then you have the additional problem of dealing with the "sonic boom" made by the projectile(s) as they break the sound barrier... but I think I have digressed enough.
Suffice to say, any such "modifications" / "additions" that you see on any gun on sale in India are JUST AS USELESS as the "TURBO" stickers people put on Maruti cars to make them "look like they can go faster"!
Cheers!
Abhijeet

Re: Which DBBL?
Thanks Mundaire for the detailed reply. See Im bothered about the buck, so Im asking the Gun gurus for suggestions! This is proper research for me, can't get better IFG.
Yes, the "silencer" thing is just perforated extention. I did not personally like the concept but one dealer(because he had those guns) was insisting that the thing works by reducing noise & increasing range. Offcourse I took it all as crap!
Btw, the guns pictured above are BHATI, PFIZER & BSA corp.

Stay away from these abominations as winnie put it..no use wasting money on these hockey sticks or 'thapis' ..these things are only good on TV or movies . Add few more thousand and go for a decent shotty ..Pfizer gun MoA is correct now there is a law suite in wings ..somebody should let them know. LOL
.32 its your choice if budget is an issue I would suggest to go for IOF .22 instead seriously the ammo is cheap and you can practice more...these contraptions are appalling and look like death traps. Its your choice in the end
Good luck
Cheers
