Safe place to deposit firearm

Hi Everybody!

As the elections are nearing, we here in Bangalore are required to deposit our firearms by the 17th of this month. I was wondering which is a safer place to deposit (i.e. either the police station or an authorized dealer). Any suggestions from members (especially from Bangalore) would be most welcome. Hi Ticky am not from Bangalore,but my suggestion to you would be to deposit your weapons at an Arms dealer,oil them youself or pay him a little extra and your guns will be looked after,do go into the anticedents of the dealer before depositing them,at the Police Malkhana they will be lying in a dark and dingy place and no one is gonna bother,Malkhanas in most of the places in a real bad shape.

Fellow Bangalorean here. An arms dealer would be better than your jurisdictional police station. Rest assured that your firearm will be better kept with an arms dealer than at the police station.

go to a arms dealer with a known high profile associate who can vouch for the dealer.

mark your magazine,bolt,firing pin.in short any thing that can be removed mark it and take snaps of markings as proof.
NOBODY CAN BE TRUSTED WITH ARMS.

I am really surprised that in spite of numerous judgments by Hon'ble High Courts(if I remember correctly, at least Bombay and Allahabad High Courts), still people are being asked to deposit there firearms. It is really even more surprising to see that the people rather than approaching courts are complying in the most docile manner(indirectly and quietly accepting themselves being equated with criminals), even though they risk getting their firearms damaged/tampered with etc.

I just deposited mine in Kovi Yesterday.

You DO NOT need to deposit your firearms during elections, all such sweeping orders are illegal as mentioned by goodboy_mentor. The local authorities are REQUIRED by LAW to put in place screening committees to ascertain who are potential trouble makers and ONLY their firearms are to be deposited during elections. There are enough legal precedents to support this, so if any carte blanche order to deposit all licensed arms are issued they are ILLEGAL. Please do not give in to such illegal orders...

Deposit them with a dealer.In case of a rifle,take out the bolt and keep it with you.If the magazine is removable do the same with that also.In case of a shotgun,keep the fore-end with you.Ditto for pistol magazines,rifle/shotgun slings,holsters and gun cases.


Some unscrupulous dealers are in the habit of taking out bits and pieces especially springs and firing pins and sometimes extractors and even foresight's .Before you deposit,ensure that the dealer is demonstrated that the gun is in good working order and take it in writing from him.Check it when you get it back.In case of any hanky panky, file a case.

Better still file a writ in the H.C. against the blatantly illegal order calling for all to deposit their guns.

Since High courts have already declared such orders as illegal, what if people refuse to deposit arms?

There is a notification in the papers with regard to this.
Failing to deposit might be treated as failing to comply.
i've put mine behind bars to be on the safe side.

If the notification is illegal and against judgment of courts, it has no value. As far as question for remaining on the "safer" side is concerned, the most "safe" would be not to keep any arms at all for self defense and let the fate take its own course.

There are lots of safe and safer options it is upto each one to decide how they wish to proceed, your safe method of not keeping arms is your choice.

Only an order of the Supreme Court is applicable through out the territory of the Indian Union.The High Court has jurisdiction only over the state.So unless such an order is passed by the Supreme Court,the fact that such a practice has been declared as illegal in one state by the High Court of that state,has no bearing on another state.

I am sure now some one is going to deliver a homely on how we should approach the Supreme Court and seek directions on this issue.A humble request to any such member,unless you can put money where your mouth is,please don't.For such a matter to pursued in the Supreme Court would require a couple of lakhs,at the least.Are you willing to contribute.

Lets start at Rs.25,000/- for each person with a minimum of 20 contributors.Any takers

Debatable.....too many grey areas in the notification.....what if a person has an All India licence and is not present in that particular state during the period .... am sure there are a fair no of folks who arent going to be depositing their arms....happens all the time
