Could you clarify the threat you are facing or anticipating?

Is that essential to own a gun?

Hi Ricky get a Shotgun, either an O/U or a S x S,doent matter which one,but get a Double, load one barrel with 7 1/2 shot and the other one with a Astram Magna No 1,they will regret the day they laid their eyes on your house. as per as my experince the day you get a gun license, they wont come near your house

The question was ,"What gun to get for self defence".

The only clarification I can think of is ,"For what purpose? Carry or home defence?"

My answer to first is a handgun as stuffing a shotgun or a rifle down your pants should be extremely uncomfortable. My answer to the second would be a shotgun if you live in a crowded area.A rifle if you live on a farm.

There after,as much practice as you can get.Infact a lot of it would not even involve firing the gun.

Eh? Why are you picking on me, specially when we both are pointing in the same direction  I asked him to elaborate what he needed his gun for. He has done so in his later posts.

I guess you are right.Sorry.It is just that these days when any ones seems to suggest that the only reason for owning a gun for self defence is if there is a threat(a la our M.H. ),it gets my goat.

Get a decent shotgun, a pump action if possible. With decent ammunition the Shotgun is difficult to beat as a short range area suppression weapon.

In addition to Dogs also invest in blaring alarm, lights and grills; did you register a case at the police station? May be it would help in justifying the license. It also depends on your budget -- cheapest and fastest option is Indian made shotgun followed by a IOF .22 or .315. Good luck

Best
