Got my IHP/National 35 .22(5.5mm) Air Rifle

Post by trammway » Sun Feb 28, 2010 12:29 am

It is finally happening with me I got my IHP/National 35 .22(5.5mm) Air Rifle, incidentally that is my first ever rifle / weapon. I got the rifle from Mr.Pandian and after a brief talk with him over phone and visit to his office, I bought the rifle + pellets(500nos) for Rs.5850/- (Rs.5000 for rifle + Rs.200 tax + Rs.650 pellets). I hope to get few interested people from my area to come together to start practicing the target shooting. My question is now, where to find target shooting range.

Over to people from Velachery/Chennai region.

Congrats Trammway,

Though I think you paid a bit more but still getting first rifle just feels great.

Have nice shooting time and always remember safety first :)

Does the IHP gun have a pretty crisp two stage trigger? I need a gun so i can practice big bore and small bore events and i feel air guns are best for putting down 50 pellets each day in our homes or terrace without worrying about loud noise and costs of shooting big guns.

The least that we can achieve out of air-gun practice is breath control, trigger squeeze, balancing the gun, target acquisition, posture etc.

one question though - is it a good idea to buy a .177 or .22 calibre for this purpose.
Plz advise

I don't think I can answer your first question, as I IHP/National is my first ever gun. So still need to learn other guns available to benchmark and differentiate etc.

The other part of your post involves lots of logic and of course the Air Gun is the best option to own and practice. About .177 or .22 question, I had the similar confusion and finally settled for .22 only because the size of the rifle looked similar to its big brother guns. Where in the .177 was standing close to my kids's toy gun. I'm sure I'm also targeting for the shooting competition but I wanted to learn the tricks in .22 then buy a .177 dedicated to competition purpope.

I bought the IHP/National .22 cal rifle now the real action/learning awaits for me, the first and foremost thing is to know various parts that makes the entire rifle that I own today.

If only I know the names of individual parts and it's function on the shooting, I would be able to understand the various discussions in the forum. I could see there are many expert discussion but lots of them are out of my knowledge for a simple reason I don't even know which part they are referring in their discussion.

I got a single paper manual (actually nothing much) with the Gun. I'm looking for a complete user manual for the rifle, does some one here got a Word/PDF version of IHP/National .22cal rifle ?

Congrats on your purchase. Several years back we used to plink on the Valachery east coast road. That was the only place you could find other than the expensive rifle club.

Don’t know how the place has developed now but could be worth checking out some nice secluded spot.

Would be more fun if you were more in number and make this a weekend thing.

@goverma, Thanks. I just started, will see how is my Arms License and new firearm quest go through. The Air gun is primarily for shooting practices and I will buy another .177 pistol and rifle for actual action of competitions(thinking of imports after I get the feel of IHP .22)

can you clarify with my previous queries posted above ?

Now I am no expert. I own the same gun as yours. My understanding about the dial is used to set the elevation of the bridge. Which means it allows you to align the peap hole with the cross on the end of rifle. You need to set it such that your target + Cross is eassily visible from peap hole. You need to calibrate it. Most of the time you wont have to do anything to it.

What I have also done is made a PVC based stand for my roof to try shooting targets on as in this link http://accurateshooter.wordpress.com/20 ... get-stand/

You may download and print targets from http://www.reloadbench.com/pdf.html I use the first two and the correction target given way below to learn my mistakes.

You can also go throuh this post made by some of the members http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8987 where they have given me some inputs.

When you do intend to buy .177 which I also want to do after a while (once I have the hang of .22) I would suggest go for pnuematic air gun and Co2 air pistol

Hope this helps...
