The Bourne Gun.
Hello Everyone,
Just need some info on this particular gun that a friend of mine has bought from an old man in Mumbai.
12 bore DBBL hammerless non ejector gun.
Make Joseph Bourne and son, Birmingham.
"THE JUBILEE GUN" engraved on the rib.
1 1/4 OZ NITRO PROOF
serial number 54071.
30 inch barrel with double triggers.
Grumpy. Mark, Mehul and the rest can I find out the history or some other such thing about this gun?
Its really well made and handles superbly.
P.S The triggers slant a bit to the right. Could it be custom built for some one???
Monish

Re: The Bourne Gun.
Hello mate,
not much but this might be of some use:
Joesph Bourne & Son were wholesale gun makers and manufacturers of rifles from 1877-81. They were based at 82 Mark lane in '77 and 4 Cullum St from '79-81.
Got that bit from my 'Directory of Gun Trade'. Sorry, I don't have any info on the actual gun.

Re: The Bourne Gun.
I`ve just checked the Internet Gun Clubs Historical Database and note that Joseph Bourne/Joseph Bourne & Son existed from 1849 until the 1950s and that Joseph Bourne was previously in partnership with Thomas Redfern from 1840-49. The company is recorded as being one of the few that built .600 double rifles.
Having `handed` triggers is an indication of quality - it also means that the stock is cast for a right hander. Are the trigger strap and top strap curved to follow the line of the stock ?
I`m interested to see that the gun was proved for 1 1/4 oz loads which suggests that the gun has 2 3/4" chambers. That, coupled with the long barrels suggests that the gun was built either has a live Pigeon gun or a wildfowler ( a Duck/Goose gun. )
Could you post pictures of the gun - including the proof marks - and let us know what the weight of the gun is ? With that information I can probably let you know a little more about it.

I`m afraid not Monish - no records exist for Joseph Bourne & Son.

Re: The Bourne Gun.
I am not sure but it is a vintage gun with ejector & damascus barrels made somewhere around 1860-1900.Joseph Bourne & Son was commercial firm for Birmingham small arms ,manufacturing stock for P53 Enfield.
Did u saw this kind of stamp engraved on the Gun,shown in the Pic. below.
soon i ll send more details after discussing it with my father.
