Remington Express .30

Hello..

A friends distant relative has a remington express .30 and I might be able to persuade him to let it go.. It is fired about once a year and has been stored relatively well. Original blueing is almost all gone but the wooden stock is original. How much should I pay for it?? BTW it comes with a couple of packs of S&B softnose and winchester silver tips

You may need to part with a portion of something that is very very dear close to you and you'll probably have it for free!

....And get rid of the hideous touchwood varnish as soon as you do.

Looks to be a very nice one otherwise.

Stock on that rifle is not original. Don't pay more for it than you would for an M1917 Enfield, for that is what it is. Except that later ones had a cock-on-opening conversion. Cheers.

Sadly in India, there's no-price index for guns... an M1917 could cost 30,000 in one place, 85000 in another and 200,000L in yet another... all on the whims and fancies of the seller (individual or dealer)- The price also has no bearing on the condition of the gun, originality of parts or any other logical consideration.

I've always had a thing for the Model 30, 30s, and that great 720. The one chance I had to buy one was a specimen in which some previous owner kept changing his mind about how to side mount a scope -- the left receiver wall looked like a fishing net. A sad fate for a wonderful rifle.

Since its a seller's market, try and enjoy a drink with the gentleman, soften him up a bit, talk about his hobbies and past times, check out his financial condition, get into his mind, come around to discussing prices of guns and how difficult it is to buy ammo, get into his mind and then start popping innocuous price tags, starting as low as Rs 25000/-. If he doesnt toss you out, then proceed to something on which HE looks relaxed. Then seal the deal .
