Re: another yankee
summers are much better, it usually does not get much over 90 f., which is comfortable, and cools down to 70 f. or so at night. just now we're getting the edge of the second of the two big snow storms that shut down the east coast, but we're used to snow here and have the people with equipment and experience to deal with it, along with the average driver having the skills to drive on snow covered roads, and good judgement to stay home when driving is impossible. while we're getting snow now by mid april it will all be gone and we'll be looking forward to summer.diskaon wrote:brrrr... -8 deg celsius!!! thanks for the offer.. i guess i'll be happy here for now. hows the summer??

Welcome gunnera4.
Hope you've managed to dig out from all the snow that the east coast has been experiencing recently

Re: another yankee
we were lucky this time, most of the heavy snowfall stayed south and east of us, what we did get was easy to handle. as i said above, we're used to dealing with it so we get the snow plows out on the road early and keep them working, along with putting down salt and sand foe any ice that may form. i am laughing just a bit at the politicians in washington d.c., they're still pushing "global warming" as a "crisis" while they had to pretty much shut down the government because no one could get to work. funny thing, the country as a whole didn't even notice the lack of government, we just went on as usual. could it be that we don't really need all those babus and office wallahs in washington?

Welcome gunner,
My feeling is that if you halve the state machinery and then halve it again you would still have room for some downsizing.

gunnera4, may I echo xl_target's sentiments including (maybe even especially) his remark about Kipling?Welcome gunnera4.

(aside to xl: I didn't know! Kipling is pretty much top-draw stuff for me. Do you do Robert Service?)
