Hello from Michigan!

Post by Big Gay Al » Thu Feb 04, 2010 8:12 am

I found your group when another member of the Pink Pistols posted a message about the Washington Post story. I thought it would be worth a look.

Just a little about me. First, in spite of the user name, I am NOT Gay. :) I got that "nick name" when I took over the Michigan Pink Pistols at the request of my friend, the founder of the national PinkPistols, Doug Krick. When I did that, a friend of mine in SAFR, called it "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Gun Group." I guess she thought she was being funny. :) Anyway, the nick name sort of stuck, with both me, and the Michigan chapter of the Pink Pistols.

Some people have asked me, if I mind the nick name. I do not. Partially because I am a huge fan of the adult cartoon series, "South Park." And also because I know who and what I am, and I am not afraid of labels, false or otherwise.

Beyond that, I'm a 54 (recent birthday. ;) ) year old husband and father of 2, both boys, ages 12 and 10. I like to collect firearms, whenever my finances allow. Currently I own an Arisaka Type 38 6.5mm rifle from WWII, a Taurus PT92AFS 9x19mm pistol (looks like the Beretta 92, except the safety is on the frame and not the slide), a Czech Vz-52 pistol in 7.62x25mm Tokarov, an EAA Witness (made by Tanfoglio of Italy) in 10mm Auto pistol, a Yugoslavian M59/66 (Yugo copy of SKS carbine) in 7.62x39mm, and my most recent addition, a Rock Island Armory FS Tactical M1911-A1 in .45ACP.

Anyway, I want to thank you for letting me join your group. I hope I can add positively to any RKBA discussions, or any discussions you have here.

Welcome to IFG, Big Gay Al. Thanks for the RKBA support and do share your experiences. And how about some pics of Arisaka Type 38??

Regards
Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Hey there Al, I dont think any one here really cares about your sexual orientation :) , I am sure the members here would welcome and accept you just the same as if you were gay! We are happy to have you here and hope you contribute to and enrich this forum and learn something about our difficulties with gun laws here. Nothing like a Brother in Arms, (or a sister for that matter :D )
I used to visit the Cabela's in MI,as often as I could while I lived in OH :D
Regards,
Anand

I used to live in Mount Prospect, IL. Was there from 1978 until 2001, when I moved to Michigan. While I miss the area somewhat, I don't miss the crowded streets, nor do I miss the socialistic attitudes of many who live there. Always felt like I was in the minority, as a gun owner. Now it feels like the opposite, even though I'm in Lansing, even most of the democrats here have guns. :)
