Re: New groups mobilize as Indians embrace right to bear arms
MR N.G i am not comenting on the morals, integrity and or ethics of Mr Riberio,my simple submission is that it is not right for him to comment in this way regarding a basic right to bear Arms.He and the people { SHO onwards} who followed himin office , had, will have an Army of Guys armed with AKs,Glocks,Stens,Uzis,38 Specials ete, etc, etc and still he was hit.the people who were their to protect him couldnt do their jobs.people of Mr Riberios stature, and those who were activly envolved with law and order and know how easy it is to procure an illicit firearm shouldnt make these statements. It is a well known fact that the police is useless while trying to protect the common citizen.their job is to protect the law makers, their own bosses etc etc, where does a common citizen go,or maybe the common citizen doesnt matter in between the 5 years of LOK SABHA or Vidhan Sabha votes.People like Mr Riberio should participate in Gun Awareness drives and use their influence in making this country a safe one.The critera for getting an Arms Licence should be ones need and awarness of Arms, not ones influence or proximity to some IAS,IPS,CMs office or PMs office, right now i guess it is the latter half.

This is the truth, I fully agree with this. This cannot be better confirmed by what happened at CST on 26/11 by the statement of a photographer who took photographs of terrorists. ("There were armed policemen hiding all around the station but none of them did anything," he said. "At one point, I ran up to them and told them to use their weapons. I said, 'Shoot them, they're sitting ducks!' but they just didn't shoot back.")It is a well known fact that the police is useless while trying to protect the common citizen.their job is to protect the law makers, their own bosses etc etc, where does a common citizen go,or maybe the common citizen doesnt matter in between the 5 years of LOK SABHA or Vidhan Sabha votes.People like Mr Riberio should participate in Gun Awareness drives and use their influence in making this country a safe one.

What does Mr Riberio want to convey? Were the policemen hiding all around CST on 26/11 "using" their weapons or "misusing" them? Or does he want to say that all the people of this country do not have the inalienable god given right for self defense, hence should stay at the mercy of a few lunatics/criminals because they may misuse this right? Or he is not aware that these criminals are not lining up at the licensing authorities to apply for arms licenses to do their business? Did the criminals who had attempted on his life, procure the weapons for crime by respectfully applying for an "Arms License"? Or perhaps he is not aware because of arms smuggling/underground gun running, criminals are able to procure any number and type of weapons of their choice they so desire? At least such level of ignorance is not excepted from people who have held high offices.

My issue to your post was labeling the officer and his tenure as failure which was uncalled for and unjustifiable. lets focus on the counter arguments to issues raised by the officer
"ill have an Army of Guys armed with AKs" Only time I saw him was with One Body guard ( average ht fella) with MP 5 in a single Ambassador car in the evening without any posse ...Its besides the point dont want to get into snide remarks or arguments ...

As to his (Mr. Ribeiro's) stint in Punjab, it was not his "bullet for bullet" policy that finally turned the tide against terrorism - in stead it was Mr. Gill's policy of arming villagers with semi & full auto rifles & carbines which ensured the final victory over terror! In the final analysis it was the armed citizen who won the battle and not the forces of the state...

For more, go to Google and type Gun Rights India and follow each and every thread. We are getting support.I would have said the chances are slim, but even the Washington Post is covering the possibility of a gun rights movement in India. It’ll be interesting if India turns out to be a major front in the international battle to get other governments to recognize their people have the right to effective tools needed to defend their lives and liberty against predation, like we saw in the Mumbai attacks.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

OUCH !!
