Which Airgun should I Buy?

Post by harshu007 » Mon Feb 01, 2010 4:57 pm

Hi,
This is my 1st post.
I am excited to have joined IFG recently.
I own a 0.177 IHP since 20 years, but now want a better gun.
The need for a better gun is :
1. To graduate up from plinking to some serious shooting where i upgrade my skills.
I am going to join a shooting club for the purpose.
I have been through the previous posts about buying an airgun but have not been able to conclusively infer the same about the gun to buy.
I like german engineering and respect it.
I have gathered the following manufacturers are recommended by IFG'ians: 1. Diana and 2. HW (Weirauch).
In my searches, i quite liked the Diana mod. 54 laminated for it power and recoiless shooting.
I also quite like the HW 77 and HW 97 for their power and the quality of workmanship (also stated in previous posts).
Can you please guide which air gun should i buy ?
Please excuse my naivety.
Many Thanks.
Harsh. :)

welcome to the forum harshu

opinion will be divided on the issue. we all have personal choices and i am going to add to your confusion by suggesting that "out of the box" the best spring airgun is the air arms tx200hc , however, if you can get your hands on a "tuned" hw77k or a hw80 (the beeman R1) it will let you shoot well with both a scope or open sights. most of us using weirauchs have kits installed to help them shoot better.

your best bet would be to try all your choices and see which suits you better. IFG members in your area would be quite helpful

Hami,
I am using a HW 90 for some time....wanted to upgrade its power. What kits are you talking about and what do they achieve. Plz let me know where and how much to get one for.

Havent really shot my HW90 thru a chrono yet....but feel it can still add some power.
Thanks
Amer Akber

Harsh - i havent fired a HW 80 but hear it is really great....a HW 97K looks beautiful and shoots incredible...but is heavy which shouldnt be much of a problem.

unless you are planning a trip abroad, you can order it online from a few american sites (look up airgun import via post courier route thread) . Tim at Mac1airguns seems to give good service.

Amer, I think the Hw90 is gas ram, don't think there are any kits for it, but I may be wrong. I as referring to the V mach or Maccari tuning kits for spring powered airguns

And yes, the Hw80 is sheer pleasure :D
