If anyone has any gunsmithing questions, I will help to the best of my ability.
Welcome to IFG, I am interested in doing a basic gunsmith course (short duration), can you suggest something, other inputs such as costs, accomodation while doing the course, addresses, and other relevant items would be most helpful.

I couldn't agree more. Once you're on "their" list, they already have your throat. Then it's just a matter of searching for the pillow to snuff the air out.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Hello ArcherSix,
Hope your stay here is as pleasant as mine has been. One of my very good friends is a Gunsmith based in Sandusky ,OH. I lived in the USA from 1996 to 2003, and have owned several firearms and held Concealed carry licenses from Florida and Utah. I was also a member of the NRA in the USA from 2000 to 2008. There are some other members here who have lived in the USA and are familiar with US gun laws, but I think you are the first FFL to come on IFG. I am glad we have Brothers-in-Arms abroad and wish us well and your advise will be appreciated.
Regards,
Anand

yes there is info in the legal section on these as election commission has given a clear guideline also the court have come in the favour of the gun owners.

Good to have you here. I am a new member to IFG as well. I have a .22 Remington Speedmaster Model 552 which I have inherited from my grandfather (about 18 years ago). It's a beautiful weapon which can take 22 cartridges in its tubular magazine. The problem is that whenever I load multiple shots into the magazine the rifle gets jammed. The first shot goes off fine and the empty pops out but the next shot gets stuck and I can't fire it. I am presently using it as a single shot rifle at the shooting range. How the problem developed is another story. I once deposited my rifle at the nearby police station. In India you are supposed to deposit all arms before the Elections. It has never worked well after than. God knows what happened there. Now I make sure that I deposit my weapons with a arms dealer ....rather than with the cops. What could be the possible problem. The local gun smiths I have consulted have never seen the weapon before.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. The 552 Remington is a good little rifle. If it is firing and ejecting well we can rule out any firing pin or chamber problems. You say it works fine if you only load one round into the magazine? I would first inspect the inner magazine tube. Is the follower(the part that bears against the round) moving smoothly? Also, there is a piece in the reciever that moves the round up from the magazine up to the bolt called the carrier that may not be moving correctly. it is supposed to be controlled by the bolt. If you disassemble your rifle, you will see how much movement it is supposed to have.

Sometimes these rifles can benefit from a full teardown and a good cleaning.

HVJ1,

A good place to check for short duration gunsmithing classes is the American NRA. I believe the website is www.nragunsmithing.com . Also some of the colleges that teach gunsmithing have some shorter classes. Try Trinidad college at www.trinidadstate.edu , Good Luck!

this may be indian law but it is NOT "o.k." by any reasonable standard to make law abiding citizens give up their guns while hoodlums roam the streets armed. where i live, (see my introduction, "another yankee") such a law would cause a housecleaning of the governor's office and state legislature at the very next election, leaving many politicians unemployed and seeking honest work at a mcdonalds "greaseburger" shop.

i agree with archersix, remington is an old and respected u.s. arms company, with a long reputation for quality guns. my son has owned a remington "nylon 66" since he was 10 years old, he's 40+ years old now and still shooting it, along with his service model .45 and 7.62mm rifle. i agree too that every gun can use a full teardown/detail strip and cleaning, i do mine about twice a year, with "field strip" and cleaning after use, and his suggestion of starting by checking the magazine tube for dents is a good start on your problem solving.
