Anti gun propaganda - esp in India

Post by mundaire » Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:29 pm

... What all of us hear from time to time...

PLEASE ADD TO THIS, so that we may all have a collective response ready when required:

1) More guns = more violence

2) More guns = anarchy

3) Guns are only meant for one thing

Once you counter the above with hard stats that prove to the contrary you will usually get to hear the following:

1) What about the crooks? If we make things open they will have a free run

2) Oh, that's all fine and dandy with developed countries, but we Indians are not ready for such freedom. Have you seen the petty stuff over which people get into fist cuffs on the road? etc etc. Basic premise being that Indians are genetically/ culturally predisposed to irresponsible/ violent behaviour!

And so on & so forth...

ONCE AGAIN PLEASE ADD TO THIS LIST! If you are a pro-gunner or even if you are a closet ANTI this is your opportunity to VENT FREELY without any chance of reproach here! ;)

Cheers!

well as for me i would like to add:

guns in home cause death to family members. so they should be banned. as guns kill.
as men tend to be the gun lovers and end up shooting family members, so should be banned.
small arms are major cause of death thus should be banned.
any one who has guns only end up killing innocent people,so should be banned.

thaaats allll folkss for now

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but there may be info here that would fit with your particular issues, or could be modified to work for you. Of course, leave out what does not apply.
http://www.gunfacts.info/index.html

GUN FACTS

INTRODUCTION: Gun Facts is a free e-book that debunks common myths about gun control. It is intended as a reference guide for journalists, activists, politicians, and other people interested in restoring honesty to the debate about guns, crime, and the 2nd Amendment.

Gun Facts has 98 pages of information. Divided into chapters based on gun control topics (assault weapons, ballistic finger printing, firearm availability, etc.), finding information is quick and easy.

Each chapter lists common gun control myths, then lists a number of documented and cited facts (with nearly 500 detailed footnotes). Thus when a neighbor, editor or politician repeats some sound bite about firearm control policy, you can quickly find that myth then rebuke with real information.

Gun control myths debunked in Gun Facts.

Gun users are cruel people. They have a tendency towards violence.

it leaves one more vulnerable to burglary (burglers wanting access to guns). similarly, it makes one more unsafe/ prone to attacks.

they lead to more suicide.

lead to more accidents.

self defence by guns is for vigilantes.

I did go through the book at http://www.gunfacts.info/index.html it is indeed very good and logical work, I would request all to take time and go through it. It has a lot of relevance even for us here in India.

Nobody ever can allow oneself for a "need for Firearm" to occur and then live to apply for getting a firearm license. Did the victims of 26/11 Mumbai ever felt the "need" before, before the "need" suddenly arose one fateful day?

The one i come across during the arguments is:

"Just imagine, if the guys supporting MNS during the problems they had created with North Indians, had guns, how worst the scenario could have been".

Other than safety guns are also used for sports..then why does India have NCC then well armed and trained population adds to nation's defense bench depth. Its also an area where India can earn foreign exchange by exporting well engraved and hand made guns..

"Just imagine, if the guys supporting MNS during the problems they had created with North Indians, had guns, how worst the scenario could have been".
Any form of violence is facilitated by imbalance of power. The attackers take advantage of gun control as it ensures their security and use their numerical and physical strength to commit violent crime. If MNS people had guns, there is no reason why their victims would not have guns, hence balance of power and violence under control. Criminal would have to put his life at risk before choosing to commit a violent crime and not vice versa(of putting the life of their victims at risk).

Also "Gun Control" advocates are either not aware of facts or are nothing but deliberate indirect supporters of violent crime in a very deep rooted manner, trying to protect their real intent by the smoke screen of gun control. Their criminal mind, sunken deep into their personalities finds expression in form of "Gun control" to help out the criminals. Check the list of gun advocates and their real motives behind it, e.g. Hitler, Lenin, Stalin were one of the staunchest gun control supporters. Whole world knows their actual intent and how many innocent people they rounded up, aided by their "gun control" and killed them. Also the following cannot be ignored:

1. Gun control by British in India after 1857 was to suppress any future popular civil uprising, thousands defenseless rounded up and killed e.g. Jallianwala Bag massacre.
2. 1911, Turkey established gun control, between 1915-17, 1.5 million Armenians rounded up and killed.
3. 1918, after Russian civil uprising of 1917(Russian Revolution) to prevent similar uprisings, Britain introduced
gun control in it's colonies of Australia, Canada and New Zealand. It was also introduced in Britain, since many
people residing in colonies also had their relatives, friends and sympathizers in Britain. Around the same time,
in India the concept of "Prohibited Bore" and "Non Prohibited Bore" was introduced to further tighten the already
existing draconian gun control.
4. 1929 USSR established gun control, between 1929-53 over 20 million political opponents rounded up and killed.
5. 1938 Germany established gun control, between 1939-45 over 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, mentally
ill, union leaders, Catholics and others rounded up and killed.
6. 1935 China established gun control, between 1948-52 over 20 million political opponents rounded up and killed.
7. 1956 Combodia established gun control, 1975-77 over 1 million rounded up and killed.
8. 1970 Uganda established gun control, till 1979 over 300,000 Christians rounded up and killed.
List can be endless about people getting killed due to gun control daily around the world.

goodboymentor, ngrewal and czharry, you are wasting your breath preaching to the converted. this thread is about collecting anti gun arguements, not refuting them.

here's one i hear often....

yeh shareef aadmiyon ki cheez nahin hain....
these are not things that decent people should get involved in

Answer to above is: Going by the above logic, all the freedom fighters who had guns with them like Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose were nothing but big time criminals. All the soldiers in Indian Army who have guns, are nothing but top criminals recruited from various parts of the country and our nation has put it's faith in these "criminals" to protect our freedom, dignity and honor. Since criminals have been recruited, let us disband them, and our country should start recruiting "shareef" people instead to defend our country.
What a logic, God Bless such people.

Well, the common one nowadays when I propagate my love for gun is," Why do you want a gun?? You want to become a terrorist??". And I smile. Because for them, Ignorance is Bliss.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.
