here's how i made a knife handle & brass bolster -pict heavy

Post by biking3819 » Fri Dec 25, 2009 5:58 pm

hi,
here's how i made a knife handle-
i had a coldsteel kobun tanto blade from the old camillus factory, the blade was received factory heat treated ,no edge and no handle.
heres' how i made a brass bolster and a rose wood handle ,the traditional way i.e without any machinery,i used different files, hacksaw, drill ,various grit paper from 220 to 2000,everything from home tool box.
problems faced- broken drill bits to drill on the blade, finally had got a carbide tipped drill bit, creating a heap of dirt, dust, noise,a few skin bruises and SWMBO hearings
the following are self explainnatory pics-

...i cudnt include a few steps here and there, took me 9 hours spread over 3 days approximately. The next step is to make a sheath, which i would share again as it progresses, for now that concludes it all.

Great work there, Sanjiv. Loved the finished blade.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.
