I was kind of expecting just such a response from Indian media in response to shootings in US and Germany.

Indian media is a big Circus now. The newspersons are jokers claiming to be experts on topics they have not even heard about. All they care about are their respective TRP ratings.
Ethical and responsible newsreporting is out side this Circus tent these days.

A counter with a valid and responsible response is definitely required.

Ted Turner, owner of CNN, is pretty much in league with all the rest of the left-wing gun grabbers.
CNN, known as Communist News Network, is hardly what we would call "Fair and Balanced" coverage. His movie star ex-wife, Jane Fonda, also known as Hanoi Jane is historically connected with the photos of her sitting in the seat of an anti-aircraft gun surrounded by her North Vietnamese army pals during the Vietnam war. She sympathied with them and openly told the North Vietnamese she hoped they won.
She was a major player in the anti-war movement of the time, which eventually caused Richard Nixon to prematurely pull our troops out of the country. Because of that, untold millions of S.E. Asians were murdered. Her anti-war, anti-gun left wing liberalism, along with most actors, writers and college professors, and her other evil minions in the UN, want to ban, and take away your guns and your right to self protection (ie: the UK).
Why Jane Fonda was not arrested for giving aid & comfort to the enemy, then jailed as a traitor, is beyond me. But I digress.
These anti-gun groups will try any tactic, tell any lie, in order to advance their agenda.
And in an excerpt from a NYT article; In the past 7 years, Germany has been the scene of several horrific school shootings, which have shocked a nation where the possession of firearms is heavily regulated.
Yeah, how's all that regulation working out for you?
To me (and many others), a "Gun Free Zone" only means one thing; it's a Target Rich Environment. Shooting fish in a barrel, comes to mind.

Well, I posted my response. Hasn't showed up yet. This is what I said.

Violence in any form is despicable. However it is naive to suggest that the root cause for violence is the availability of any tool that can be used to take life. When was the last time someone raised the issue of restricting car ownership because a drunk driver killed an innocent bystander? Or licensed car owners were reprimanded and accosted for owning a car when an accident was caused by their under-aged unlicensed ward?

Will kitchen knives be banned because they can be used as weapons? Will acid used to clean be banned because unscrupulous individuals use it as a weapon?

It is high time we as a society react responsibly and rationally to acts committed by individuals. Its not the gun that commits a crime, it is people. The vast majority of gun crimes are not committed by legal licensed owners, nor are they the ones responsible for the proliferation of illegal arms.

Imagine what would have happened in Mumbai had more civilians been armed. We wouldn't have been such soft targets. When seconds matter, the police are only minutes away.

Let Mr. Sanjay Kaul, President of the People's Action Advocacy Group deprive himself of his right to defend his life. But let him not decide for me, nor anyone else, the actions necessary to protect myself, my family, and my community. Has our society lost all value for human life? Have we given up self-respect for self-esteem? Is it now just about feeling good instead of doing good and standing up for oneself and defending ones self and fighting back? I consider my life, as well as the lives of anyone else under threat to be worth defending. With a gun, with a knife, and with a rock if need be. But no one, absolutely no one is entitled to make that decision for me.

Why does a builder need a gun, Mr Kaul asks. Why do our netas need escorts of automatic weapon toting bodyguards? Clearly because there is an element of risk to life. So then clearly there must be some faction of society from whom they wish to defend themselves. Is a netas life more precious than mine, or my family's? Is he entitled to defend his while we must languish with inadequate police response times in a real emergency? Do events like the terrorist attacks in Mumbai do nothing to show you the urgent need for more rather than less law abiding citizens who are armed? Let us not forget the world we live in, your elitist aspirations to make self-defense impossible for the common man are behind increases in crime. The strong oppress the weak, and you urge us to remain weak.

Unfortunate events like these, when an unqualified, untrained, and unlicensed juvenile commits an act of violence shouldn't be made to reflect poorly on the vast majority of law-abiding citizens who chose to carry a weapon. Neither should you slap stereotypes onto people. Being armed is not equivalent to being a criminal. Do we really want to be a nation where only outlaws are armed?

To end with a quote from two champions of peace.

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest" - Mahatma Gandhi, An Autobiography, p. 446 (Beacon Press paperback edition)
“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” His Holiness The Dalai Lama (Seattle Times, May 15, 2001)

We carry guns because policemen are too heavy.

BJL.

Very lucidly put.

Guns are already in wrong hands. The terrorists in J&K and the North East and the Naxalites.Mr sanjay Kaul should lead a march to convince all these people to surrender their firearms. He off course will not. What about the police which a Supreme Court judge had declared as the best organized criminal group in the country. Also police armories are routinely looted by the anti national elements and help them add to their own store of arms and ammunition.

That figure of 4 crore is a guess at the best.My estimate, not even 20 lakhs and this in the second most populous country in the world. No wonder a criminal can reasonably hope for no armed resistance from his victims. Statistically, his chances of being shot by an intended victim are negligible.Take into account corruption in the police, the public prosecutors office and the judiciary and the drawn out legal process,he has every reason to believe that he can get away with it.

In an armed society the gunman would have lasted a little longer than the first shot being fired.

You all should really watch something called 'The Obama Deception' it is available on You Tube and other sources.

they are not showing any comments on the thread.

how ever i would want them to tell me where did they get the:
"There are four crore firearms in civilian possession" from? is this licensed arms holder or unlicensed or both?

" 1,400 arms dealers" how is this figure arrived at? well India is a very large populated country so its going to have a very large population. so 1400 licensed dealers are not many in population of 2 billion or so.

"No surprise that a gun culture is fast becoming a reality on school and college campus in India."
what is this based on?

"In December 2007, 14-year-old Abhishek Tyagi, a student at the Euro International School in Gurgaon, was shot dead by two of his classmates. The gun used was an imported 32 Harrison pistol that one of the boys had stolen from his father."

the school boy was shot with a stolen arm. not a licensed arm which was licensed to him.
does this make a gun culture? one or two lone instanced has become a culture.

or
"Barely a month later, in a similar incident, a student in a government school in Madhya Pradesh used a crude weapon to kill a younger schoolmate."

crude weapon? what crude weapon ? is it a gun? or paper ball?

""Why did the dad have the gun in the first place for the son to use. Why would a builder whose business is buying and selling need a gun at all," demanded President, People's Action Advocacy Group, Sanjay Kaul."

why do the army have the gun in the first place? why do the police have gun in the first place? to kill people? no for protection. or is it the only vips who are under threat? why do bank guards need guns? after all they sit around and do noting.

and finally:
"As gun-related violence thrives in the West, everyone is worried that the trend may catch up in India when weapons fall into the wrong hands," said psychiatrist Dr Amit Sen.

am so sorry Dr. Sen you are not in the real world, why not open the TV channel of J&K or NE tv and see the world as it is. Dr. Sen you are way behind times it started soon after man was created.

i believe that every life taken, an innocent life, weather by the gun or the red line bus, is a lost of a precious life. i can not say that guns kills or the red line bus kills. i would say that left by themselves they have no consensus or power to harm anyone. i would say and am willing to stand firm on is that anyone who operates a firearm/taxi or bus has the power and ability to harm others.

overall its a reporting without facts or verification, bits and pieces put togeather to make a story which has no substance.

do not forget that any one can become a lay journalist and write what ever they want and posted on the ibncnn net. please someone try and see how far you will get. its utter crap. noting worth getting heated about.

gentelmen

i read this "post" quite late.

"Why did the dad have the gun in the first place for the son to use. Why would a builder whose business is buying and selling need a gun at all," demanded President, People's Action Advocacy Group, Sanjay Kaul.

above is what is said in cnn ibn article

we as "indians for guns" could ask this guy , who the hell he was to demand such a question in public.?
i would like to say somwthing apart fromt he topic, only " abhijeet or mundair " doing something or everything is not gonna help. What he has done and is doing is worth admiring and getting motivated . abhijeet has ignited the fire now its the rest of us guys responsibility to grow it.He is allways gonna be there to help us (if i am not wrong).

couldnt someone spend 5-10Rs to call the cnnibn office and express their view or who knows even walk up into the office and catch hold of the reporter and try to talk it out first , if not successful , ask for help from "indians for guns".All the members registered here, if taken seriously , call up the cnn ibn office , the people will be forced to report another article which this time would for people "for guns".....

i think if we do this they will portray us as a violent group of gun obsessed people who are afraid of media. we should ignore this kind of hype and focus to our goal and when in need use media to cover our positive aspects...

in my opinion media is noting more than a gun ....use it either ways !!

and the reporter has nothing to do with it....he is just earning his bread... nor do the editor (im positive that he carries a gun to defend himself as he is responsible for the news broadcast/published ).

Mr. kaul can say anything he wants in public it is his fundaMENTAL right and his own opinion so u cant question that. well we can do the same in a different way ... we have created a video ....and certainly we will do more than that to aware people of their rights.
