Which one?
But if I were to hazard a guess it would be something astronomical like 5L.

Vipul its ok not to know things but its not OK to ask questions with an air of authority , what you have to do with Remington, you want to buy one or you want to sell one, which bolt, do you want to test the ballistics, barrel, magazine what ?

So probably you start by explaining where did you read about 'which Remington' , what made you so interested in it, if its not first hand experience (don't be worry in India not many have much first hand experience, including me, thanks to the government I can muster all the money its worth for but I can't muster the babe:-) )

And then we will take you to the ride, just give us the proper info man.

At 40000 I think your uncle got a good deal. Though I didnt know of Remington manufacturing a .315, then again I am not wikipedia. Yos sure its not in 8mm Remington Magnum or some such caliber?
I somehow thought that the .315 was unique to India.

follow this link and see for your self from the horses mouth.

I havent got a remington in my collection currently, but did have a 700 in 7-08 which was a decent rifle. The standard stock does not have the barrel free floated, and once in an aftermarket stock would shoot sub MoA. However some of the other calibers I shoot are a lot more accurate, so I got rid of it.

A Remington in .315 India/aka 8x50R Mannlicher would indeed be a one-of-a-kind rifle. While I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that they had made some rolling blocks in 8x50R as salesman samples, the cartridge is not one that had great distribution as a sporting round in Austria, the tough military primer giving ignition problems in the typical break-open hunting rifles. What gave the cartridge a boost in popularity within the empire was the British prohibition to civilians of the .303 in India and the Sudan.
If the rifle is a bolt, it could be a Remington-Lee, although again there is no mention of it in the literature in that caliber. But most of the companies made up rifles in all military calibers of the time, hoping for large military contracts. So possible it is. Sure would be nice to know whether the rifle in question actually is a Remington. Could be a rolling block in 8x50R Lebel, those were made in considerable numbers. Cheers.

P.S. Could be a Remington-made P14, rebarrelled to .315. A pic would certainly help.
