Absolutely agree, however, I wish to make one suggestion. The Petition must be kept SIMPLE, meaning not mixing too many subjects, you can either have single one for Ban on Imports or a separate one for Arms Licensing procedure.

Re: PARLIAMENT OF INDIA have your say
How about another one for a more 'reasonable' policy on domestic private Arms Manufacturing for the civilian market?
The act provides for it- Though some needless 'control-freak' clauses can be eased.
The current economic policy promises to treat both small scale and large scale industries equally (Private Arms manufacture comes under small scale industry)
Broadening the range of products that can be manufactured by non government manufacturers. Currently its limited to SBMLs, DBMLs, SBBLs, DBBLs....

Re: PARLIAMENT OF INDIA have your say
Hi Guys,
Its good to see, that after a long time, something or other is popping up on RKBA issue.
For petition, i think its a great idea, for keeping it simple, lets every one begin with their views and drafting their own petition and posting it over here, by that we might get the opportunity to club many views and form a single petition, which then can be signed in by Members of IFG (if they will too).
CC: The third option shall work only once, we have the BAN on Import lifted, Once the Manufacturers based out of India have the permission to sell their arms in India, the prices of IOF Fire arms will have to come down, secondly India has attracted major Companies to set up their production / Services in India, i dont see a reason why some of the Arms manufacturers wont do that, if provided an opportunity. Again the important point is that the doors shall be open.
So for now, who is drafting the first Petition
Ravi

Ravi,
Best option is a common petition , signed by many, that is fast as this one needs to go printed and signed, if it has to go as a organization then list of names and sign of the co-coordinator. That is the Idea here.
This will also help establish IFG , as a press release can be issued to the media about the petition
Abhijeet ,
Your comments are highly required on this.
Regards
SUbs

Re: PARLIAMENT OF INDIA have your say
I agree fully with hvj1 that petition must be kept simple and to the point:Absolutely agree, however, I wish to make one suggestion. The Petition must be kept SIMPLE, meaning not mixing too many subjects, you can either have single one for Ban on Imports or a separate one for Arms Licensing procedure.
1)For lifting import ban since it is absolutely pointless, as terrorists/criminals do not depend on licensing authority to get a license and then import weapons on basis of that license. They obtain PB bore weapons at much cheaper rate through illegal gun trafficking. A person is issued a license only after licensing authority is satisfied, he is going to have the firearm anyways, why is he prevented from importing the weapon of his choice?
2)For Arms licensing procedure, it should be made objective, not dependent on personal perception of licensing authority. When a citizen of India is presenting his proof of identity and residence, is not mentally insane and is not a proclaimed offender(in other words he duly submits himself to the law of the land) why should the state indirectly deny him the right to protect his life under Article 21 by denying/delaying the grant of arms license? Present Arms Act only appears fair on paper to a layman, it is cleverly drafted law so that in practice applicant is practically at the mercy of licensing authority.
3)When any citizen is allowed to travel freely anywhere in the country, why is he not allowed to take his weapon and defend his life wherever he goes in India? Why does license have to be only for district and state?
I personally feel we should get IFG/GFI registered as voluntary organization/NGO etc. and sign a common petition and track it. People who can devote spare time should be willing to come forward into the real world from this virtual world. IFG should also have more members joining in. Some ways to promote IFG/RKBA especially with media and political parties are welcome.

Re: PARLIAMENT OF INDIA have your say
And who is the Licensing authority ? a psychiatrist ?
When British made Licensing authority the only authority it made sense for they had to prevent the white meat from being shot and pre 1879 India not many were literate, actually the masses were uneducated villagers when now cities are merely 8% of the total population think about what it might have been then.
Then my friends if a gora babu decided the fate it made sense at least it was in favor of the ruling class, but now whom this DC favors ? His pockets ? or his sick ego which was beaten so many times when his other friends actually got through IIT, IIM and other various jobs and this guys kept studying same guide books 8 hours a days for years and on fourth attempt he gets it.
Just imagine how important he thinks he is, so you go there all shining with fancy job title ,fancy shoes, fancy club membership, better clothes, a better watch, a big car , so what ?
He is DC , the guy who slogged in damp room lighted with a 25watt bulb in Allahabad, shared by five others.
he suffered then , you suffer now ,for , he is important and by every denial he proves that he is right .
Just a psychological evaluation of a nearly true hypothetical situation .
