Dear Friends,
Hi,
One of my close relative has got 9x57 caliber rifle.
I will be highly thankful if any gentlemen helps me out in telling me the availability of above mentioned cartridges as he has been using 8.5 x 57 for that sake. I believe continual usage of lesser caliber will definitely have adverse affect on the grooves - Pls clarify.
Cheers!!!!
KAUSHAL

Kaushaltomar,
Your relative is taking a big risk shooting 8x57 ammo in a 9x57 rifle. He will eventually destroy the rifle and possibly injure himself.Losing an eye or a hand is quite difficult to get over.
9x57 ammo would be hard to find and expensive when you do find it.

Re: Where will I find 9 x 57 caliber rifle cartridges
There are two 9 mm rifles commonly encountered in India. The first is the 9x56 MS and the other is the 9 x 57 Mauser. They are not strictly interchangeable though the Mannlicher round can be fired in the Mauser but not advisable vice versa. The 9 x 56 Mannlicher seems to be more prevalnt in India. A coulpe of years ago we had a batch of 9 x 56 ammo made by Old Western Scrounger imported into this country.Try Garg armoury in Delhi maybe they cld have some old stock left.
I once owned a 9 x 56 MS, was a beautifully balanced rifle, the smoothest bolt action I have ever worked, the rotary magazine fed cartridges like they were greased.
I wouldnt advise using 8x 57 ammo in a 9 x 57 mauser but if ur shooting not more than 10 rounds a year and that too for display, u can safely do it.

This makes no sense at all.Care to elaborate on this 10 shot limit?shooter50 wrote:I wouldnt advise using 8x 57 ammo in a 9 x 57 mauser but if ur shooting not more than 10 rounds a year and that too for display, u can safely do it.
What is shooting for 'display'?
This sort of advice can easily get some one killed. But then, this is not the stupidest thing that I have seen people say or do when it comes to firearms.
