Introducing Field Target Shooting in India

Post by hvj1 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 1:19 pm

Dear Friends,
In our recently concluded IFG Meet in Pune, two members discussed Field Target Shooting (FTS)Sports. Presently, Small bore (10m,25m &50m events), Big Bore and Trap& Skeet shooting is conducted under the aegis of the NRAI. Listening to the IFGians talking about FTS, I found myself drawn to this very interesting sport. Also, fantumfan, one of the members pointed out, that most people do'nt have that much time to spend as in events covered by NRAI. FTS seems to be fun, requires less committment of time and appears to be equally or in some cases more challenging (adjusting for windage) and sounds like wholesum fun.
I plan to set up a FTS range and request all IFGians who have experience in the sport to help me set up the range facility and provide valuable inputs. Another IFGian, 'Shah' directed me to the British Field Target Association, the rules and regulations I will be shortly downloading.
All we have to do,is to provide a platform to this sport and I am quite sure that eventually, we can have it organized under the aegis of the NRAI in the near future.
Looking forward to your comments, suggestions and advice.
Regards

Oh..Oh...Missed this thread....

hvj

Here are some details on HFT which uses more general purpose equipment than FT.

http://www.ukahft.co.uk/rules.html

The distance in HFT is a max of 45yds as opposed to 55yds in FT. There are some different rules for it too.

I have already uploaded rules for FT on mfta.in

Here are some pics of FT meets we conducted in the past quarter....

The best part of hosting an event is you need a good backstop, some Field targets and most importantly enthusiastic people like you.

Hi Fantumfan, do you conduct the FT in Pune? And would it be possible me to attend with my air rifle? I am in Mumbai.

Hvj1,

Would love the idea to fructify here in Gujarat too. Can you guide us? We have been trying to set up an altogether new club. Do look at my post on this topic in the Clubs and Associations section.

GREAT ...I always wanted field shooting but when i started participating, I didn't knew about any competitions being held.

I hope NRAI will also start these events. Because if NRAI starts these events then Ministry of Home Affairs will allow shooters to import magazine fed big bore rifles.
