Sweet!

Never saw the old 303 as a thing of beauty.

Thanks for sharing!

Almost brought tears to my eyes doc ....lots and lots of memories on hours spent on the NCC firing range near Kolkata , bruised elbows from shooting 50 odd cartridges in the prone and the NCO egging us on ....

Of cold winter mornings and the smell of the oil from the rifle ... of slapping the mag in - in unison during parade .
This was a beauty .

Thanx a million for the post .

Funnily I also remember - my memory may be playing tricks ...that we also shot some 0.22 LR cartridges with the same weapon another time . Is the modification possible or it could have been a similar looking weapon ?

:D :D
best regards

Yes . It was re-chambered , sleeved and converted into a single shot rim-fire .22lr version .

that leather boot is a work of art.I have a Mark4 peep sight version, as a reminder of those NCC days at Iblur range-last I saw the place ,had a million flats!
Would love to have a boot like that.

I have seen PAP mounted jawans with these sort of leather scabbards.I am sure some one makes them in India.Nice rifle. If only the IOF could be persuaded to use suncorite instead of the iron grill paint that they use now.

Eljefe,

Do you mean a No 4? Mk1 or 2?

That rifle has definetely been refinished.

Even a rifle stored in cosmoline from 1907 to the day that set of pics was taken couldnt possibly be that clean.
The leather is well oiled, as is the stock, and the bolt is way too clean.

Looks gorgeous to me. I especially like the Mark III.I like the way they handle, for a military rifle of course.Shot thousands of rounds preparing for competitions while in NCC.Love it.Thanks for sharing.

Gentlemen,

Is there any specific name for that "wrap around canvas' around the action ?

No one liked the "Wilkinson" Bayonet ?

That is an 'action cover' (what else) with a thong to tie it to the loop in front of the trigger guard.

Here is a 'how to" http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=113
