Indian archery

Post by shikari » Wed Sep 30, 2009 8:19 am

I have been noticing a lot of people taking interest in archery lately,It really breaks my heart that not a lot of people are looking to our past for the answers,The bows from India in the 17th cent were some of best in the world. They were small, powerful masterpieces of craftsmanship and technology in their time as honestly their secrets have still not been solved, these bows were water resistant than most and beautifuly made.no one till date knows the exact composition or materials used to polish these bows and make them waterproof and then come the steel bows of India.although heavier these were a revolution before the advent of firearms as they did not require the care needed for horn composites.
I am in the process of trying to reconstruct a couple of bows from the delhi meuseum,to use specificaly for hunting to test how they preform and how close i can get to the originals.Indian archers were renouned and the bows were revered, let's see if we can solve a few old mysteries.
