Re: .308 ammo. available?
I believe the .308 is a PB round, considering that it is so similar to the 7.62 NATO. So it's probably difficult to procure.

.308 win is a NPB although it is the same as 7.62 mm x 51 mm NATO, technically speaking .308 case is thinner than 7.62 mm NATO (NATO deals with higher preassure so its case is thick) you can import the ammo if you are a rifle club member and for competetion purpose.......you would need an import licence and for that you would need a NOC from NRAI...............you will not get the ammo in a gunshop.....

7.62 case is thicker to deal with the generous chamber dimensions of the military rifles. As per the Indian Arms Rules, any rifle that can chamber and fire a 7.62 cartridge can only be held on a license issued by the central govt.(Home Ministry).Since a .308 rifle can do that,it comes under this category.

I have myself fired with handloaded .308 win in the big bore Nationals.........................all the components were imported by a shooter he had an import licence............if it is illegal then how can he import it and then use it in a competetion
