First of all, I salute you for your dedication to this forum.

This article brings back memories of me being a little 3-4 years old and listening to tales of Jim Corbett and others.

In fact in the early 60's, a fellow landowner of my uncle in the Terai, a Mr. Bajwa, organized a hunt for officers of his Mehkma (department). They had a full scale hunt with beaters etc.. A few Anglo/Indian firm Gora bosses were also invited.

I still have vague memories of 2 tigers hanging in their courtyard along with an assortment of Leopards, Spotted Deer and other lesser game.

Now due to mismanagement and rampant poaching all that is gone.

The only story we can write is that of the "The Turnip patch eating rabbit that I shot with my airgun".

The true congratulations for a tremendous effort in compiling this material must go to friend of the IFG and expert hunter and India enthusiast Nick Caico, popularly known as Nickudu. It is his dedication that has brought many fine accounts of shikar back into the limelight after they remained in obscurity for decades. Considering that Nick has also been instrumental in reviving the grand old 505 for modern safari hunters, I can understand his enthusiasm for all things associated with hunting's great past.

All I am doing here is a simple cut and paste job. The true effort is Nick's and I shall pass your good words on to him.

Very best wishes and yes, I too have memories of fine homes, of large gun racks and of huge gun shops like P Orr and Sons, all of which went the way of the dodo in India. MAny of the memories are very pleasant and those of the end of the era are particularly sad.
