advice for buying a shotgun

Hi doc_brar,

If budget is not a problem, why bother with something lesser? Simply look for a foreign shotty in good condition.

Do bear in mind that there is foreign junk as well. So look for something of a known brand, and one that isn't too old.

Almost always SxS shottys tend to be older (Not always), while O&U's because of their frequent usage in competition tend to be new.

Pump Actions are nice to have for general use though most will be oldish.

Know also that semi-auto shot guns are Prohibited Bore.

In interest of promoting and encouraging domestic manufacturers though, you could settle for those made in Jammu or HP... they tend to be the nicer of the lot.

thanks a lot CC.i tried two pump actions a winchester and IOF both got jammed.the dealer told it was due to the indian ammunation but dont feel like buying them.regarding the o/u i have read somewhere in this forum that they normally give trouble.

First of all beware of all the firangi junk with dealers around, they re polish , re checker , barrels are re blued and old junk is presented like NIB.

O/u is realy not a problem if you buy imported from genuine buyer or modern jammu make they also make as per specifications.

You are from Muktsar and there are many good gun shops in Muktsar.I whould advice you to buy a jammu make shotgun as they are good quality wise and value for money also.

I bought a 30 06 rifle U.S.model 1917 Eddystone from Punjab gun house in Muktsar for 1.83 lakh last tuesday. He keeps good jammu made shoguns.One of my friend bought a jammu made shotgun from the same gun house around one year ago. We have fired many rounds from it without any problem.He bought it for 16-17 thousand ruppess and now their price have decreased to 13-14 thousansd. I think its a good deal at that price.

Not really you can get the permission from the local DM/Licencing authority in your state to buy it from another state and the dealer you buy it from will arrange for a T/L for you to take it back...
He is asking for 4 L plus for the Arietta & 5 L plus for the Beretta...claims the guns to be in mint condition...havent seen them personally though...
A friend in Delhi might be intrested in selling a Browning O/U,which was a direct import in the mid 80's.

a different state will be a big issue for these babus they dont even tolerate a outside district weapon.a friend of mine got his father in laws dbbl transfered to his name because he had to shift abroad.the father in law is from moga and gun is transferewd to muktsar.now when ever he goes to renew his licence they ask him to bring a fresh NOC from moga police and this has been happening every 3 years for the past 10 years.

I would go for Browning o/u recommended by Sanjay regarding NOC from Moga something is amiss folks regularly purchase guns across the states etc. The resindent legal eagle Penpusher is on hiatus maybe others can pipe in.
