Hello
a musket as classified in the dictionary is a muzzle loader smooth bore firing a ball. a .410 of the police can also fire buck shots which consist of 5 shots. The nomentclature in 1(c) refers to a musket used by the police firing ball and buck shot, so in default a .410 shotgun is legally a NP Bore.

Further to the above discussion, check out this interesting product:

And it's priced quite reasonably!

Hi,
I'v heard of 20 gauge being shot from 12 bores with the help of adapters, also of .500 BPE being shot from fully paradoxed shotgun barrels, but .22...... this is the first time.

Cheers

As per the Birmingham Proof House the Baikal 12 G is the only known case to have passed this test...

Sanjay: Shooting a 20 gauge shell from a 12 gauge through an adapter is one thing. That's safe for gun and shooter. Shooting a 20 gauge shell from a 12 gauge ahead of a 12 gauge shell, is another. That's what the story says only the Baikal has withstood. Though it seems that, in that particular case, the 20 gauge did not fire. It has happened often enough with disastrous results, and led to the color coding of American shotshells, only yellow for 20 gauge. The quote in your post and your comment seem to imply that it was the .500 BPE that the 12 gauge Baikal handled without rupturing the barrel. You are absolutely right in advising against any such experimentation. Never let 20 gauge and 12 gauge shells get mixed up in your pocket when shooting a 12 gauge. Cheers.

One can buy "Barrel Inserts" for 12 bore guns to shoot .22 LR and other center fire pistol/revolver as well as sub bore shotgun cartridges in Germany. Some one did get a pair in 22LR, and was willing to sell it at a premium but I chickened out in spite of having a .22 and 12 bore on my license. Basically its meant for pest control in farm houses for those who don't want to spend or cannot afford another fire arm. Frankly,
I see very limited utility as they cannot be at all accurate without sighting irons. Although Sub bore shotshell inserts are useful but pretty impractical for our country.
