Planing to buy Winchester M1895

Hi guys I am planing to buy a Winchester Model M1895 in 30.06 Cal
I want to know that the ammo is available here or not?
the guy is quoting the price of 100K for that rifle.
is it OK??

I know they were made in 30-30 Win. Caliber but as far as I know not in 30-06. Because it has a tubular magazine under the barrel, the 30-06 spitzer bullets can strike the primers of the cartridge ahead and set it off.
Now if it was a modification of some sort, and using flat nosed bullets I would like to see what the heck they did.

I always get confused with the Winchester Models numbers especially the ones that came with box magazines but lever actions. These I know were made in .404 caliber.

the Model 1895 Winchester was the one with the box magazine, as opposed to previous models )e.g., 94, 92, 86, 76, 73) which had tubular magazines. The 1895 was offered in .30-'06, as well as .30-40 (not to be confused with .30-30, which was offered in the Model 94), 405 Winchester, .303, and 7.62 x 54r, among others.

.30-06 was pretty much at the top end of cartridges that the Model 1895 could handle, power-wise. Make sure that the one you're contemplating is still serviceable if you're getting it as a shooter.

Hi Anand,

The Winchester M1895 is unusually a box magazine lever action. As timmy mentioned, it was made several calibers including 30-06. Several 405win versions have passed through my hands for refinishing. Most were in good mechanical condition due to lack of ammo.

Why don't you wait for the IOF 30-06 to make its grand appearance? Personally though, I think the you're spending a little more than necessary for a very old piece of hardware. That being said, I can tell you it is indeed one very well made gun... typical of Winchesters of its era.

...of course that only my opinion.

that dealer is in raipur chhattisgarh, and that idiot sold away that rifle at 150 K
but he said that after a week some more models are coming including few leaver action.
If you wish I can give u his contact number, but, I realize that he is not a man of trust.

From this last information, perhaps the M1895s he's getting are the modern Browning remakes of the original.

If it is an original 1895 in good condition I'd say buy it over something new.

In 5 to 50 years this gun will be worth a bit more than what you paid for it. The IOF, probably not so much!
