Seventeen year old girl gangraped in Surat

It's high time the Indian Govt understands the necessity of bearing weapons for self defence. If this girl even had a .22 handgun on her, she wouldn't have to undergo the trauma brought over by her loss of honour. The police is good for asking only embarrassing questions later on. They may also catch the wrongdoers, but that won't ease the poor girl. May God forbid, but imagine it happening to someone you know!

Forum members, let us put together all such examples and forward it to the Arms Cell. A suggestion from my side will be that the government puts an age restriction upon the calibers; between 16 and 18 years, it should be a .22; from 19 - 21, a .25; from 22 - 30, a .32; 31 and upwards, it should be .357 and .38 Spl.

FIrst of all they should increase the punishment for these kind of offenses.
Sentences like public hanging and public executions for such kind of hideous crimes should be passed - this will instill fear in the minds of such criminals and will deter them from even thinking of such things.
But of course prevention is better than cure and like Rottlord rightly said a simple .22 would have changed things.

Sniper, this is a country where the dhoti has reduced the working (and thinking) capabilities of the people who are in charge of modifying the IPC. Since they can't protect the common people, the next best alternative is arming the people. But that's beside the point; are we moving forward with the plan or not?

If the administration can't get rid of the pests, we need to pick up the can and spray the pesticide. Guys, I went a long way towards creating an awareness about such issues and thought that IFG shall back me up but I was disheartened at the reluctance of all but a few; perhaps this time, the moderators shall help us all to sustain our respective voices.

It's time that we leave the comforts of the AC and the chair and the coffee and the computer and take the necessary steps; shed your masks and fancy ids and come out in the open if you want that change to take place. Else, shut this farce; there's no point blabbering away to glory. Guns are the tools to create a better and safer society; the sooner you all feel it within and act towards spreading the awareness, the better it will be for all of us! We don't want to see another Indian shedding tears because of an unrecoverable loss.

I also propose all fellow IFG-ans to sign a petition and send it to the Chief Justice demanding the strictest of penalties (not life imprisonment but a Capital Punishment); this is where Abhijit can help us out. He is well-aware of the ways to approach people in the administrative department. So, is it a green, a yellow or completely RED?

What purpose will that serve for RKBA or gun ownership? :?

Think out of the box and you'll understand; sometimes, it's not just about guns but about humanity and rationalism.

1)I agree that IFG has to be more than just an online forum where members indulge in mental masturbation about guns. Nothing positive been done about RKBA. GFI was started, but it seems to have whimpered. Things need to be moving positively as suggested by Rottlord.

2)Encouragement about capital punishment does not seem to be a wise decision in a corrupt country like India, since innocent can be convicted and criminals can get released with full honors. I think you can well understand what I mean.

Yes, you are right; but when things are as clear as daylight (read media coverage), there's less chance of being so.

But I still didn't get the answer I am looking for: RED, YELLOW or GREEN?

I hope the victim and her family get justice soon. And agreed that if she were armed she could have been able to protect herself.

Rottlord,

You make suggestions, make them and leave it to the choice of members. Also, please abstain from suggesting individuals' names to do any thing.Bad form.

No hint of suggesting anything that can even remotely be construed beyond laws of the land please.

As per the rest of the discussion, may I request all members to discuss, debate and ask for support all you want but please refrain from berating anyone or this Forum or demanding responses from other members? Can we please use a bit more temperate tone and language?Thank you.

I understand that,Rottlord, you only mean well. But, it serves everyone's interests that we give enough thought and consideration before we say anything in a discussion.Thank you for the reply, though.

Best-

I would like to chime in here and point out the criminal charges can only happen AFTER the crime. RKBA is a deterrent to prevent the crime, no matter what it is, from happening in the first place.

Criminal penalties are pretty irrelevant to crime prevention in my humble opinion, and when there is a hue and cry to increase penalties it does nothing to further the cause of RKBA, and indeed provides a false sense of security so the masses can be convinced yet again that personal responsibility and protection are not needed.

So when these terrible things happen, do not allow yourself and others to be misled that stiffer penalties can fix or lessen the problem. All that mode of thinking does is take away from the energy of the RKBA movement.

Are we willing to collect the facts that will help RKBA and meet the people in government who can make the difference?
I am willing to be with you, get an appointment to meet the Home Minister, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi etc. First we will have to get our act together, that is GFI etc has to come through. Get the relevant information through RTI, present it in a convincing way.
