.38 rimless smokeless ammo

Post by The Doc » Sun May 24, 2009 10:41 am

Gentlemen,

I know finding this ammo in India might not be possible. I do not know anyone who reloads. Also .38 super though with similar dimensions is NOT safe (much higher pressures) if fired from a pistol that is chambered for .38 rimless smokeless ammo.

Is there any substitute ammo ?

best,

R.

Hi Doc,

I take it you are referring to the .38 ACP?

Cheers!

There is no substitute for the .38ACP - apart from the .38 Super.......which, as you say, is loaded to MUCH higher pressure ( SAAMI pressure limit of 36,500 lbs compared to the 26,500 lbs of the .38 ACP. ) which would be extremely dangerous to use.......especially as most ( all ? ) pistols chambered for the .38 ACP are pretty ancient ( calibre introduced 1897 but not commercially available until the introduction of the Colt M1900. ) The .38 ACP rapidly disappeared as a chambering after the late 1920s when the .38 Super was introduced.
I know of no manufacturer who makes .38 ACP ammo - and not for many, many years - so reloading is the only route.

www.grumpedia.com ?
More like www.miserableoldgits-r-us.com ! LOL.
I have brief experience of the .38 Super as I built one for PP back in the mid-`90s. Promptly replaced it with a 9x23 and then built a 9x25 Dhillon.........which was a BIG mistake - muzzle blast was so severe that the whack in the belly gave me terrible wind ( http://www.fartyguts-r-us.com ? LOL )
How ya doin` Doc ?
