news on balewadi pune shooting range

Post by colthead » Thu Sep 18, 2008 6:52 pm

does any one have some status of the shooting range being made in pune for the common wealth youth games ,
i have heard that it is the state of the art range , but my question is that after the games are over what will happen to it ,
in maharashtra this will be the first range where they will have TRAP , DOUBLE TRAP , SKEET & SHOOTING , WILL WE MEMBERS OF mra , nrai GET A CHANCE TO USE THE RANGE

Dude.. usually, competitions are held in different parts of the country (NSCC< Mavlankar, CW, etc), so that the infrastructure in that part of the country improves.
Mostly, this will then be 'merged' with the state association or the state Olympic Association, and is usually thrown open for members of the association to use.
This may very well be the case, with respect to your query above... :)

Hello colthead,
The Range at 'BALEWADI' near Baner is indeed state of the art range.
It is well maintained except for Drinking Water facility.

Thanks.

well friends its been 6 months since i started this post and the situation is status quo ,
i have tried my level best to find out about who runs the show there , who should we contact for any thing , etc etc , but unfortunately result is zero
i thought we people finally had a shot gun range where we could get training , practice and probably if we would be good manage to take part in some compititions ,
i really dont know why so much of money was spent if they didnt know what to do with the range after the games ,
i have seen on thn nrai web site ti shows training camp for shot gun shooting , trials etc but on enquiring , i was informed that it was for the team selection for the common wealth games
what is the meaning of a sports complex does it mean it is for ranking sports men or even for people who are interested in the sport ,
i belive and from what i have heard its the best shot gun range in INDIA , and i dont know if fellow members know that in maharashtra there are probably not more than 5 to 10 shooters who can actually play the sport
if the government wanted to spend so much money on a range only for the games , they should have made it in north india at least some shooters could have made use of the same rather than making it in maharashtra
well i have all my life wanted to do trap shooting but couldnt ass mumbai never had a range ,
now that we have a range so close to mumbai the situation is the same
just with the knowlage of the range coming in pune i went and bought a perazzi mx 8 , guess what its 2 months and i havent fired a single shot
i feel all friends who are interested in shot gun shooting in maharashtra should meet up and try and approach some one who will help us
probably the MRA ?

Actually from what we have seen In Delhi is that the range falls under the adminstration of the Sports Authority of India. This body doesn't really give a damn whether you belong to the NRAI or the Delhi State Association or what have you.
They have procedure for range membership which is a standard form atleast in Delhi for all DDA Sports facilities. So once you run thru those hoops you get to experience world class shooting facilities. But remember they actually don't give a damn about the expenses or pain undergone by you. If you keep this in your head and then proceed you might find the process less er...stimulating.

Try the MRA by all means but it might be better to inquire with the supervisor in charge of the range.
Enjoy your Perazzi anyway it is a superb firearm to own.

Regards,

dear friends , i finally had the oppertunity to try out my perazzi at the trap range ,it was over 40 degrees under the sun , we had driven all the way from mumbai and had adrenlin pumping in our veins , just dying to shoot on the clay birds , the biggest problem was the ammo , just had 95 rounds and as it was my first time , in between the shots gutted down 2 litres of water , the facility at balewadi is WORLD CLASS, if we can get some ammo issues sorted out at least people in maharashtra who are interested in trap and skeet can make use of the world class range , its cheap to use RS 600 is day fees per shooter plus clay bird costs , 7.5 no ammo is not available in maharashtra , could some one suggest where we should look for the same ?

dear sagar
i agree with you absolutely , last month i went three sundays to the range just to see the national team training , was observing them shoot , as we dont have this sport promoted in maharashtra , it was a good opportunity to learn the stance , gun mounting , gun hold etc ... , by seeing these people shoot , we had our ears open listening to the coaches speak to the shooters , as there is not much on the net about olympic trap shooting , we were lucky to get to see the top guns and learn by observing them , i was lucky i could shoot there and being the first time i was shooting on a trap range it was the greatest thing that could happen ......, well drinking water under 40 deg + temp , you get dehydrated very fast
i want to learn this sport at whatever cost , in india and if need be by going abroad too
