Relocating to Kodi

Post by Bruno22 » Sat Apr 11, 2009 6:19 pm

Hello friends,
I may plan to relocate myself to Kodi (Kodaikanal) in the near future. The international school there is supposed to be excellent. I will be visiting later on in the year with my wife and kid,but any advice from you guys will be helpful. If there is anyone currently residing there? Otherwise any info good or bad would be welcome from all you friends. Its not only regarding guns and knifes (would be swell if there is a nice knife shop there) but also stuff regarding day to day living for a guy with a wife and kid, hospitals and medical facilities, things to do, the temperament of the locals. Its a off beat topic but any advice would be very welcome.

Hi Bruno22,

I studied at kodai for six years, graduated in 1990. It is no longer what it used to be like, but still one of the best and most beautiful places in India. With tourism taking off the infrastructure has grown tremendously which makes it easier to live there. You can get practically anything in kodai now.

Excellent place for hiking and becoming one with nature. For those golf lovers there is a wonderful golf course right in the middle of the forest. local wildlife do wander about into the golf course, including bison, which is why the putting greens are almost always fenced.

Its been some time since my last visit, but I would recommend kodai and the international school any day.

All the best.

Thanks for your feed back. Were you at the international school? Hows it for a day scholar? We plan to stay there cause I am not too keen to put my son in boarding.

Hi Bruno22,

I did indeed study at the kodai international school and it is a great school. As far as I know, every one that has been there loves it, especially after leaving it. There are very few day scholars at kodai, it is mostly a residential school, but there were a few day scholars, including one my class. The school is a good place, you don't have to worry about putting your kid in boarding. It makes them stronger. It was a little difficult at first for me since I came from a very rural part of India but settled in quickly. It is a difficult choice to make but best speak to the guys responsible at the school and you should be able to make a decision.

The hostels at the school are nothing like your general hostels in India. They are very relaxed and have a good atmosphere (when I was there). What age is you kid? The primary and middle school has been moved from the centre of town to a more countryside location (have not seen it) but is said to be good.

All the best with your decision. If you need anything from my side do let me know.

cheers

My Sons is four years old. I know for a fact that the boarding school starts from class 5 onwards so I guess we have some time to think it over. I was in them somewhat affiliated school in Madras, which was called Harrington House. Many kids went to Kodi international from there. Many thanks for your response. I am planing to visit Kodi next month. Will also visit the school and see it firsthand.
