Greetings.

Post by Private Merc » Sun Mar 15, 2009 3:55 pm

Greetings from Iraq;
Was googling down to see if any recent developments have been made in India on certain gun laws and stumbled upon your site. Needless to say, this site is great for people starved of correct information relating to arms and ammunition in India.

About me; I am an Indian working as an United States Government Contractor in Iraq in the field of Close Protection Detail (PSD). Have been in theatre for over 3 years now and moving on to Afghanistan soon on a new deployment. Seen a lot of action involving small arms and medium arms fire, coupled with almost daily mortar rounds raining in.

I am sure that I'll get to learn a lot of indepth knowledge on the state of affairs in gun laws in India with some really 'nerdy' :D fellows on this site.

Many Thanks,
r....!

Can I be modest here please? I really think I have been cowed down by the knowledge you guys share here, on the forum.
I can talk a lot on M4's, 16's, AK's, M-21's. 30cals, belt fed PKC's and 50Cals & a variety of Handguns to name a few; but when it comes to legit bores in India you guys simply walk all over me! I used to always be enamored by my dad's .32 FN; when I came overseas for my training and the kind of weaponary used; I really felt India lags way behind and sometimes laughed at the tiny bullets the FN rakes in.
I hope that this forum reaches out to the gun lover in India and also if some echelons in our bureaucracy hear us voicing our concerns and relax the laws a bit.
Its understood that arms and ammo in wrong hands can cause havoc, but like we have it here; there has to be a 'cradle to grave verification' process in granting licenses to ensure that it doesnt go to people who will misuse their weapons.

Stay safe and God speed to all!!

Welcome Private Merc. Please share with us about your experiences. Yes I agree with you, in India we have to be content with .32 mouse guns, since we do not have much choice. Hope things will change "one" day.

Thank you Bruno;
When I first got here; I didnt own a knife; I felt and still do feel, that an hand to hand conflict will never happen with us as we are on the defensive side, not on the offensive. My AK or my Glock will serve the purpose well, than a tac blade.
I was gifted a "blade" by one of my outgoing mates; he had seen enough action (lol). It's a nice Columbia River (CRKT), barely 4 inches long (blade) but sharp enough to make the British SAS pocket saw look like a toy~!
The local boys on my team wear big East European bloc 1970's 1980's machetes just to look cool; forecast - not going to be using it!

I use it many a times on difficult cans of tomato sauce and on one occassion to slash the seat belt of my client, to cross deck.

Have a great day mate!

goodboy_mentor ji -
Thank you for the warm welcome. Attaching a pic just to give a small glimpse of the "experience" tale you want to hear. A pic speaks a thousand words and I think it will sum up good.

This is an F-350 Ford V8 diesel power house. Uparmored to B6 specifications and can withstand small - med arms fire and a grenade. Unfortunately this came in close contact with a VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device), but of small magnitude. No casualties reported.

Godspeed.
