Welcome aboard Ajay, it's not just pellets - apparently the chap at postal customs (Delhi) wants anyone importing an air-rifle (or pellets) to be an renowned shot! The fact that renowned shots could always import these items and that the notifications were specifically meant to benefit those who have just started out in this sport are of no import to him... typical babugiri, govt. tries to do something good for a change by making a small concession and the babus can't even handle that!

To import via courier -
print screen this
http://www.cbec.gov.in/customs/cs-act/n ... 20-2k8.htm
so that they will know it is from the customs page.

Welcome to IFG sir & thank you for taking up our cause. I recently read another one of your articles which i'm sure will give a much needed wake up call to the babus. For the IFG'ians who have not read it, here is the link http://tinyurl.com/lyvv3t don't know if it has been posted here before.

Hello All,

Need some urgent help.

My parcel has arrived Mumbai and the UPS courier guys have informed that import of pellets are strictly banned.

Top of it the Notification No.120/2008 has no clarity as it does't mention if that is specific to exporters or club members.

Can someone throw some light and help me to get this consignment cleared.

I believe you are in trouble, Notification No.120/2008 is making .177 pellets duty free not 'free' to import.
That means it is still a restricted item in classification and those who are eligible to import (Eg. NRAI) can import it now without paying duty.

If the pellets are billed and shipped on the same invoice and package with gun you may have a high chance of getting it cleared along with the gun, considering it as a 'package' with the gun.

It happened with me I've brought 3-4 tubes of pellgun oil and couple of tins of Beeman H&N pellets and an aluminum pistol box with my IZH-46M and all got cleared free by UPS.

Some times the officer in charge allows but if they stick on to the manual, you are in trouble.

Manicks,

Copy and paste this link in the browser and hit enter , a word file will open. Scroll down to bottom. It says your import is legal; provided you fulfill the membership criteria

http://www.eximtimes.in/cexim/eximpol/I ... h%2093.doc

Further, I see no reason to attach undue importance to the word "restricted" every time it is shown in the manual. It means only 'restricted' and not 'prohibited' or in negative list. For example see this link http://164.100.9.245/exim/2000/not/not07/not5207.htm

and notice how it describes POLICY as 'restricted' and in 'POLICY CONDITIONS' describes the conditions to overcome the restrictions.
