.22 350 diana airgun Dubai price AED1500/- aprx.
Hello friends,
I am based in Mumbai.
I am not a member of any rifle club.
I want to import .22 diana 350 magnum and am ready to pay the duty.
Can I order by post, if not, then can I ask someone to bring it from abroad ( Dubai ).
The dealer in Pune, 'GUNMARK' is asking 54,000/- for that, while it is available in AED 1500/- APRX RS 18,000/-. in Dubai. Add import duty but still will be cheap.
Also I heard airguns import is not allowed for commercial purpose. Then how is the dealer allowed to import for selling ?
Thanks
Babu

i have read that in the last budget custom duty has been waived on .177 caliber air rifles. So i wanted my brother in USA to bring a Gamo air rifle. but i read that one need to have membership of National Rifle association or similar association to import even a air rifle. Is that true?
Please provide me some info regarding it here or via PM
thanks
Sharad
If ur brother is getting the rifle along with him in his baggage! then there is no restriction on the caliber type and u don't need to be a member of any rifle club or association!
Its only when u r importing directly(via mail), that u need to be a member of NRAI!!
Don't worry, ur bro can get what ever rifle u like w/o probs!

Re: Importing airguns into India
latest news????
Any NEW airgun that is being imported needs to be scrutinized by a person from the ARMS department of your local PC office. So in other words you have to pick up the chap from the arms dept, take him to the customs office. he will inspect and certify that it is an airgun and then you can have it.
Dont know about other places but there is at least one confirmed case of it happening in Bangalore.
Can someone please confirm

Is this procedure same even for the personal baggage import channel ? Somebody please confirm this as my airgun is arriving on 12th April and I need to decide wherether to get it or dump it. The person getting it is landing at mumbai airport and I do not want to go all the way to mumbai to get it released.

Re: Importing airguns into India
It really depends on the customs officer on duty, it is entirely up to him whether or not to insist on a police inspection (to determine whether or not it is an airgun or a firearm).velind wrote:Is this procedure same even for the personal baggage import channel ? Also, to the best of my knowledge many airport customs have now begun to take the airgun import notification specifying .177 cal to mean that other calibres are disallowed even via the personal baggage route. This means that importing a .22 cal air-rifle via the personal baggage route is now a hit and miss affair... an unexpected negative outcome of what was intended as something to help out airgunners (the notification).

Omg!! WTH! now 0.22 isn't allowed either?? even via personal baggage route? thats just great!
I sure hope they dont consider Airsoft guns as 'dangerous'!! cuz i'm planning to get one of those!(via import) as currently, its too much a hassle to import an air-gun! (NRAI membership + a letter from customs is needed!! )

Re: Importing airguns into India
Hi Guys,
Would be importing my air rifle, however I have heard from few people who have already imported that as per 1st April 2009. I would be able to import only 2 rifle per annual year, so there should be a gap of 6 months before I import the 2nd one.
As I am new to importing please advise me on this so that I would be able to plan as per that.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Importing airguns into India
I didn't say .22 cal are not allowed, I simply stated how the new notification is being interpreted by customs personnel in some places... this does not mean that their interpretation is correct, it is simply a warning that people should be prepared to battle it out... and if they are not prepared to do so, they should stick to .177 cal...
As I have posted earlier, airguns which satisfy the deal wood test (irrespective of calibre) are exempt from all provisions of the arms act and are therefore not covered under the ban on arms imports. But do keep in mind the fact that under baggage rules the customs officer on duty has wide ranging discretionary powers and would be well within his rights to detain your items on mere suspicion/ doubt of them not being allowed. Once this happens the onus is on you to prove him/ them wrong before you can get your items released.

Could someone who imports more than 1 or 2 airguns per year be called in to explain? Well I guess so, but unless there is any clinching evidence to the contrary I don't see how the customs people could detain the consignment if it is stated to be for personal use... Of course nothing is ever simple while dealing with govt. departments, and is ever so dependant on the temperament of the officer on duty - a good example is the rather sorry experience that Delhi members have had over the past month or two....

Interesting question, and one on which I fielded a phone call just today As per law there is NO limitation as to the no. of air-rifles / air-pistols you can import - so long as they are for personal use... that's all the notification specifies... However, it's a bit of a grey area and is open to interpretation. People who have pooled together and imported more than one airgun in one consignment (to save on freight) have previously been asked to produce all individual importers with their club membership cards etc., but in all fairness on doing so the consignment has almost always been released without further ado.Christopher Rodrick wrote:Hi Guys,

So, the import laws are not defined accurately?! and the customs officers do what they please!
isn't there some quote from the pages of law book that we can use in our defense ?? Will they believe it? moreover, follow it?

0.22 DIANA MAGNUM IMPORT BY COURIER.
Hello,
After reading almost everything here is my conclusion and question.
1. Returning passenger(even if not a member of Rifle association) can bring .177/.22 airgun, pay duty and take it home.(Although some procedures may take a few days)
2. Returning passenger(if a member of Rifle association) can bring .177 airgun, no need to pay duty and take it home.(Although some procedures may take a few days)
3. Returning passenger(if a member of Rifle association) can bring .22 airgun, pay duty and take it home.(Although some procedures may take a few days)
4. Rifle club/assoc. members can order by courier .177 duty free, For .22 have to pay duty.
My question, I am not a member of any club. If I want to import by courier .177 or .22 Can I do so.
Thanks
Babu

Re: Importing airguns into India
Here is some good news for those wanting to import an airgun.
I ordered a Crosman Phantom 1000x from Pyramidair.com on the 11th.
2 boxes of pellets 500x2 - Free
1 Winchester scope
1 Gasram
I finally received them on the 30th.
Docs submitted -
KSRA membership - Attested and couriered to UPS
Competition participation certificate. - no idea why they asked for that.
DGFT notification for pellets and Air Rifle.
UPS forced me to pay an additional 2088/- Rs claiming that it was required and that caused a few days delay but finally i did get it.
The Phantom is a lovely Airgun. I shall post pics soon
