Yes there is some controversy. But both Sannow and Marshall are street cops one working in detroit before he retired as a homicide detective. I've got their book Stopping Power and they make it very clear right up front that their data was based on actual street shootings and they had a very clear definition of what was a "stop" and that didn't necessarily mean that the person shot expired.
A group did run some tests on live goats (called the Strassburg tests) and their actual results came very close to what Sannow and Marshall came up with. I did not include that cause they specifically excluded the smaller calibers so as not to cause undo pain and suffering on the animals.
You will find that thier results may differ from the criteria set down by the FBI after the Miami shoot out that left two of their agents dead. They are the ones that came up with the minimum penetration criteria as as a cop we may have to take a cross body shot of some very heavy set folks. While most civilian shootings take place face to face and the depth required to reach a vital organ can be substantially less. I'm about 22 inches across my chest (left to right) but only about 12 inches front to back.
Anything I can do to help.

This gentleman's web page contains actual test results for ballistic gelatine tests for guns that we normally carry.
He's doing quite a bit of testing for me and my department (we shipped him about 13 samples of .380 ACP ammo).

Sarge: I have studied that site a number of times re: 32 ACP ammo. I found the data there very useful. However, your post now amplifies the regard that I hold for the Golden Loki site, because as I perceive you are in law enforcement or some similar professional capacity, your post corroborates the data this fellow has posted and makes it more reliable in my mind.
Thanks for adding this morsel to the discussion & to my knowledge.
I am eagerly awaiting his publication of .38 Special data, and if you (and your department) are responsible for this work, my hat is off to you yet again.
Thanks for your informative posts!

Re: .22 LR Vs .32 ACP?
Wish I could take credit for it but the truth be told, I'm a very lazy person and when I lucked across GoldenLoki's site several years ago, It made ammo selection for our department a very easy task.
We had just purchased our first department pistols (Sig P-228's in 9MM) and the boss said to find the best ammo for them.
As you say his work when combined with that of Deputy Sannow and SGT Marshall made my job very easy.
And yes they still carry the Sig's and we're very satisfied with how they've performed and held up.

Re: .22 LR Vs .32 ACP?
Ballastically there isnt much difference between .22lr and .32 ACP but yes there could difference in stopping power since .32 slug is bigger than .22lr slug
