Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route

did any one ever try bringing an Air Gun via Baggage route ?
if yes , can someone share their experiences with the customs & clearance at the Shamshabad International Air Port
because i am planing to bring a gun from the U . S

hi folks ,
as i have told previously abut try getting an air along with my brother , after reading the all the posts i still have some doubts to be clarified ( they may sound silly but please dont mind )

1) do you think the gun should be packed in a gun case ? or can he just separate the stock & the barrel & put them
together in his bag ?

2) do u think its necessary to declare the gun to the customs in the U S itself & one of my friends from IFG said that
he should also need a clearance from the police of his place is that true ? if yes can some one explain with the
procedure & experiences . ( i think this was'nt mentioned any where in the forum )

3) what if my brother is carrying something else with the gun like laptop or an X box or something else . will he have
to pay the duty for all those ? if its so its like digging the the ground to bury myself .

last & the most important question :

4) even though Hyderabad has the biggest international air port in India , most of the international flights are
connecting & will have to connect with a flight in Bombay , Delhi or Madras airports . So where do you think i
should declare my air gun or where will it get confiscated by the customs ?
if its so , i cant travel every day all the way from Hyderabad to Bombay or other cities .

packing of the air rifle is done in accordance with the airline rules.
in the usa baggage is checked so best to declare and get clearance. see usa air authority website.

in India it would apper that rules are little different in the city airports. best to go and declare it. and pay any duty.
you only have to get it out of the customs where you land ie Delhi etc. for internal flight it should not be much of a problem.

in Delhi a friend of mine declared his air rifle and was out in 20 min after with air rifle and no duty to pay.

if the customs are not sure as to the air rifle they may and can and have the right to refer to the police for verification as to what it is.

one takes one chances, best to be willing to pay any duty. and stay cool.

one is allowed inr 12000 duty free. best check the customs website for other items.

nagar, I think duty free allowance has been hiked to 25,000 now. They just have a ton of forms printed with the old amount but I'm quite sure the allowable duty free has been raised to 25k. But please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

man ! i want to bring a Diana Panther 34 ( .177 ) & it just costs 10,000 & the duty price is more than double . dont u think theres any other way ?
& will he be charged with extra duty for the other products he is carrying too ? ( electronic goods i have mentioned in the previous post )
& any ides if he will be charged any extra for packing it in the gun case & delivering it to the customs in the US ? if yes any idea how much ?
& about the club membership , he dosnt have any club membership . so i have applied for a membership on his name & will post him the club card as soon as it come along with a letter by the club . i think it will be fine to do so .

If an airgun gets confiscated for annoying the customs(.22 cal etc etc) does one get to take the airgun back while returning back overseas or is the airgun just seized and thats all.

Thats a great question.. and I guess that when it comes to India.. its mostly a 'forget it' story

It shouldn't be a problem as long as you pay duty for it. If it still gets confiscated for some reason, get a receipt and tell them that you would like to collect it on your way back. Wonder if you'll have the time and patience to wait while they "find" it on your return trip .

i have heard that one can take "no fire arms" certificate at the starting point ( suppose usa customs). Then you will not have to go through the procedure of going to police commis. office to get an NOC.

Hi folks,

Sorry to dig this one from under the rack,but I need help.One of my friends has just brought back a Diana 350 Mag. in .22 caliber as baggage when he returned from one of his overseas trips and the same has been confiscated at the Customs in Bombay.They say that their notification says -.22 caliber is prohibited!!!!!!They have no problems if it was a .177 and he could walk out with the piece,but .22 is a no-no.They have even gone to the extent of telling him to get a re-export permit and take the Diana back with him on his next trip and bring a .177 He has asked to see their notifications book but was refused.He is planning to use the RTI act,but they could make things more difficult and he may loose the gun.Any advice or any link where it says that there is no restricition on .22 airguns being banned as import in check-in bags.

Hello all....

This is my first post to this site. First of all let me thank the moderators and the members for the extraordinary information you guys have put in here.

I am going to bring a 0.22 caliber Diana 34 panther to india (shamshabad airport) as my personal baggage on June 14th. I was doing some serious research to find out what is the procedure to bring that to india. One of my relative is working in central excise department told me that it will be detained by customs and will be sent to central forensic lab for a test (possibly deal wood). Then they will return the gun to customs if it passes the test. But he told me that most of the times your gun will be held with the forensic lab as they dont pay attention to make the test and send it back. obviously the customs people will not follow up because they dont bother.

I have used some of my contacts in the police department (he is a IG and he was very kind and helpful), and made him talk to the head of the forensic lab. He had some conversations with the lab incharge and confirmed that I can bring a 0.22 airgun with me and he will make sure that it will reach my home within a week.

For people who dont have these contacts, I will try to find out when I meet the head of forensic lab for the procedure to follow up the status about the gun.

Hopefully that would be useful for some of the enthusiastic guys like me to bring more air guns into india.

I wanted to share my experience of bringing my Crosman 66 Powermaster(.177) to Hyderabad. I got the rifle, Safety glasses, Scope, 300 of the Crossman Match Pellets, Gamo Pellet Trap and 100 Targets. I was not aware of the notification that the pellets are now allowed to be imported freely .

I packed the airgun disassembled in one suitcase and the scope, pellets in another suitcase. I reached Shamshabad at 0330 on Jun 1st. I was expecting objections about the scope. But it was early in the morning and the customs guy just waived us through the green channel seeing that we were a bunch of students. So got home and now having fun.

I will try to zero the scope over next week and I will post the pics.
