Yes the certificate from James Purdey mentions 2 1/2 inch chambers.
Now it is being claimed it has 2 3/4 inch chambers. Obviously if such a change had been carried out by the maker it would promptly go on his register.
If this is the case it must have happened in India.
The question is Ashar - were you aware of this fact. You were aware of the reblueing bit but prior to purchase were you aware of the alterations in the chamber ? Or this was done after you purchased it if at all alterations to the chamber were done.

Re: Transaction Dispute
No alterations had been made to the Purdey after I bought it.

So may this be assumed that it was Tahir arms who pulled a fast one, selling a gun with unspecified modifications.HydNawab";p="64870 wrote:No alterations had been made to the Purdey after I bought it.
Were you not able to detect the blueing, re-etching of the makers name and a major modification to the chambers at all when evaluating this gun prior to purchase ?

Re: Transaction Dispute
Hi all,
Even I was dealing with one of the dealer from Bangalore for my ASTRA SPAIN shotgun which is in the sale section first he told me that he is sending the money (half) and rest after the weapon is delivered then after two days he says that first let me see the weapon then I will pay you the amount so I agreed and as my Lic. is ALL INDIA so I told him to first pay all the expences from my traveling to staying over there in bangalore so he refused, so I also refused. So all the thing should be cleared before the deal and with advance payment.
After reading both side story according to me both are at fault. Since such type of things are happening in india (Fake barrel and all fake name stamped) we shooter are faceing problem in getting good weapons and ammo for competition. Anyway according to me danish dealing is very good even I have purchased a weapon (IOF .22) from him without seeing and giving any advance payment. Since I have not deal with Asher so I don't know much about him. If I would be there I would have lodged the complain with the DGP of MH as well as commissioner about all this ( Fake barrel and name stamping) happaning in MH especially Mumbai my home town. Any way all the member be careful while dealing with sale and purchase of weapons from anyone (person or dealer) specially Asher you should inspect each and every thing before purchase and also don't be in a hurry to purchase or sale of a weapon and Danish I did not except this type of mistake by you.
Anyhow we are all friends over here so as a good citizen Asher should return the money back to Danish cutting all the expenses (travelling all that). Since danish is also at fault but still ...............
Regards,
Denzil

Re: Transaction Dispute
I was just browsing through this site and I did particularly register myself just to post this for info.
My dad brought in a WW Greener 12 Bore DBBL Gun in 1978. A few years later he had issues in which his guns were lodged in the armoury in Bangalore. After a couple of years in the armoury, the gun was returned to him. When he saw the gun, he realized that the gun was definitely not in storage all those years but someone had been using the gun.... and that someone had used the gun very badly. In fact the butt of the gun was cracked! My dad was heart broken and sold the gun after repairing ( I don't know if he replaced the butt or not), but he was offered a tidy sum of money anyway for the gun. The gun shop did 'nt bother to even collect the WW Greener certificate for the gun or the original receipts (the Gun was bought in England)!! About 8 years later the same thing happened when his Webley&Scott .32 revolver was returned. Someone had evidently been using the weapon all along!!!!! If this is the state of affairs, where even in the armoury the gun has been removed and fired, I don't think that it is impossible for gun dealers to fiddle around with the weapons / certificates. With the restrictions of import of guns in India, most of the weapons here are thoroughly overpriced. The W&S purchased in 1978 for 100 GBP in the UK with an equivalent in customs was sold for Rs.1 Lakh in 1993, which in turn was retailed at 3 times that amount about 4 years ago. (100 GBP in 1978 was RS.13.00). Because of this created shortage, there are thousands of people out there taking advantage of this created shortage.
Coming back to the issue of the James Purdey. A weapon with that certificate with its original maker's fittings in full working condition cannot retail at 3 Lakhs!!!! I am not a gun dealer but I can tell you one thing, that gun is worth over 5 lakhs in it's original condition! If it is indeed the case that the gun has been sold / purchased at the 3 lakhs, there is very obviously something wrong with the gun or the paperwork. A new Purdey gun today costs roughly 70 Lakhs onwards. Thats the respect and clientele target that this gun has. By providing the serial no. to James Purdey & Sons, it is always possible to get an idea of what the weapon is worth and I can assure you the rough estimate for the serial no of this gun is gonna be quite a bit more than 3L. All Purdeys are custom made and even today you will probably not receive your gun less than a year after placing your order.
Just my 2 pice,
No amount of money is worth the bad blood. We are all gentlemen interested in good weapons. This is more for art sake than the financial value. A good assessment of the weapon is the needed and there should not be a blame game in the whole thing!

Re: Transaction Dispute
won't serve any purpose as the police do not have any expertise in this area. you will have to get an expert from outside. and will take money.
better informed or an independent consultant would be the best option before buying.

Legal Notice
Guess what guys! I received a legal notice from Vishal Gun House, Chandigarh today stating that he has made payments of 8L for the purdey which he bought from me. His lawyer has also stated that the money was sent to me through various bank accounts (about 7) belonging to Zainulabdin, Yaseen Fatima, Shahid Ahmed Saghir and Gangotri Healthcare and from 06/08 to 12/08.
I have no idea what this lawyer is talking about. Anyway, my lawyer is on the job.
On top of that hes asking for Rs.50,000 in damages.
I cant stop laughing!
