govt bans many gun sites?

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

ak-47.net & ak-47.us are opening fine at my end, so don't jump the gun and blame the government! In all probability it's your ISP assigned IP that's been banned by the website in question... Indian IP's are notorious for being the source of much spam/ spambots etc. and end up being banned by many website owners quite often...

Check with your ISP if your IP appears in the PBL,SBL or XBL. If it appears in any of these lists, you may have issues with sites which use these lists to protect against spamming.Removal is not a big problem, though it takes anywhere between 30 mins to 4 hours.

I am unclear about how this works, but have a pretty vague idea. If your internet connection has been slow for some time, and you accessed a particular site... then the scripts of the server hosting that website would recommend you as an invalid user, and move your IP into a spam list. If you clear this out with the respective web-admin, he/she would un-block your IP and regain you access.
One good way to check this would be to log onto the domain in subject using a proxy like www.hidemyass.com. If it opens thru this, then the highest probability would be that your IP is blocked. If it does not open eitherway, prefer you wait for a while to ensure that the server (of hosting site) is itself not down.. maybe then we can consider passing on the buck to the government.... which we are all so good at ;)
OUP did mention something similar but in a condensed form...
Also, the ban would not be india-wide Dns, but more specifically your ISP-based DNS...
Hope this helps :)

This used to be pretty common with SMTP traffic. Of late web admins have become very strict and PBL,SBL and XBL lists are being used to filter web traffic (NON SMTP) as well to block 'suspect' IP's (spam/bot/webpage-crawler etc). BTW Reliance IP's are notorious for being among the top 10 in the spam IP list. Airtel IP's too are affected to an extent. The ISP's know about this, though they might feign ignorance when you call up and complain. They will usually go in and quietly put in a removal request on receipt of any complaint. If you need some help in diagnosing the issue, you could PM me your 'Real IP' (External IP provided by your ISP). I can check the same and let you know about the status.

http://tacticalcourses.com which goes directly to ar15.com. Not exactly a sneaky backdoor.

For ak-47.net try http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/ than go down the list till you come to the forum you want.

If these don't work, I'm out of suggestions. Sorry.

Try opening the ar15.com site using this IP http://69.95.2.67

and the ak-47.us from http://66.221.64.82/

If this is a temporary DNS issue then you will be able to access the sites using the IPs

Are you accessing this site from your office or residence ?

Jay.
