Our renewal is also instant. Arms inspection has been mandatory.

Amk,
The rifles and the shotguns come in long gun catagory. Not a legal term though. If you legally owned a Bofor and could fire it from your shoulder, you could include that as well.BWY, my Arms license was issued in 1970. cough....cough...

Hmmm, I knew that. Not the Bofors bit but rifles and shotguns. Anyone has a Bofors Cannon for sale?

Not a Bofors, but how about a 105mm howitzer?

In case you were wondering, AFAIK the 105mm is not listed as a PB calibre

The Republic of Mumbai obviously uses a different Arms Act than the Indian Republic

Please check up Section 15 of the INDIAN Arms Act.It clearly states that the period of renewal shall be 3 years for a license issued under Sec.3 from the date it was granted.

If a license is renewed for any period less than 3 years, the licensing authority has to give reasons in writing as to why it is being done .It can also be done if the licensee so desires.

Unless the state of Maharashtra has passed a notification approved by the central govt. the period for renewal remains 3 years.

PS-I have highlighted the relevant bits for speed readers

Andy,
Yes he can & he will,ie if you want to retain the All India validity.
Eg if your All India Lic is issued in Delhi & are renewing your lic in Uttranchal due to transfer of residence or whatever, then the local licencing authority will only renew it for Uttranchal, however they will renew it for All India once they recieve the NOC form the issuing authority in this eg Delhi.

Hello gentlemen,
I have an update, I just received my license and it has been renewed only upto
31 Dec 2010 that's just 1 year and 10 months. It should have been renewed till 15 Feb 2012 under normal circumstances.
The arms clerk even said there is a "discussion" going on in Parliament regarding this "issue".

Anand,

Why not write to the DCP asking him why your license was renewed for such a short period when the Arms Act itself provides for a renewal for three years?Send it as a registered post. Most people get scared of incurring the wrath of the powers that be.I hope you wont get intimidated.

penpusher,
I have been checking since my father-in-law's as well as my uncle's licenses are up for renewal shortly, what I heard is that those being renewed by the State Home Department are being done for a full term of 3 years.
I'll see what I can do.
Regards,
Anand

Hi Anand have just got both my All India licences renewed from UA( though they are issued from somewhere else). There has been no change in the licnece renewal procedure-its renewed for three years;what that arms baaboo is telling you is BULLSHIT. But then since licneces are renewed by a city magistrate/DM please take the licences and met the chap who renewed it and ask im why renewal only for so less a time( meet him- he aint a very big fart)!
