This is the the most disgusting part... inspite of being armed, you are helpless when you most need it.... Personally, I would be the first person to try and take out guys like Kasab if I am armed without thinking twice, ofcourse after assessing and making the best possible use of walls / vehicles / pillars etc. etc.

Guys,

When I made that point about 10-% people carrying CCW the idea was "image of operation area" and resulting chaos if there are shots being fired at the so called "highly trained terrorists".

Later this was confirmed with a CST video that when a gun was fired at the terrorists, they actually changed their direction and went out of the area.
This was result of a rifle shot which was fired in a hurry from a borrowed gun by a cop, correct me if I am wrong please.

Now we come to the point of being able to use a firearm issued to you for target practicing.

The legal flaw of the system is when you apply for a firearm license you have to prove the requirement of the same and hence there are different reasons for applying, defense or TP.
In the scenario when you are attacked you can use anything to defend yourself as long as you don't intend / End up actually killing the person in question.

Guy’s don’t you think that you are going overboard with this self-defense /threat bit.
It’s not as though each time you head for a mall, multiplex, hotel you are going to get whacked,if that is the case and you are high on somebody’s hit list then get some professional help cause you are going to need it.There are rights to admission to all public places, respect them, you don’t really need to be carrying a piece when you are out watching a movie, having dinner or shopping with family/friends or visiting someone ill in a hospital.

It’s not terrorists that worry me, that the law enforcement agencies will take care off,but gun toting folks who have convinced themselves that they need to be armed at all times, due to some false sense of insecurity/threat perception and for the most part fall in the category of people who perhaps just want to make a statement that they are carrying a piece.Have seen a fair number in this category end up shooting in the air on festivals, weddings etc which on a few accessions have resulted in fatal accidents.

I agree with you & did not raise the point raised by you in any other situation but for self defence. I merely refered to that statement to suggest that the attacker will indeed think 10 times if he knew that he will face resistance.
Yes Eternalme, it was true that the guys who entered CST backtracked when they faced firing from the constable.
Thats exactly what my point is that when its logical, practical & a proved theory that world over the anti-socials avoid places where they may face resistance, why cant one carry a CCW with valid licence? Ofcourse this comes without saying that the person is a responsible gun-owner & a not a cowboy to just draw & shoot.
Gurus, your inputs on what does the Indian Arms Act state - can a valid licence holder carry a CCW anywhere & everywhere within its jurisdiction or it purely depends on the discretion of the owner of the places being visited? Apologies if am being repetitive on this issue, but am sure many here in the forum here including me will benefit from this piece of information. What are the clauses?

Cheers,
Rup

Dear Sanjay, am sorry if you think this has been over-stretched. I did not mean an individual facing a threat. I think you have missed the point here & hence wouldnt want to elaborate on the same. You can kindly re-read all the posts.
And we Mumbaikars did witness how law enforcement agencies whom you say are there to take care of threats, were helpless when just 2 guys took over the entire hotel.
And am not sure if I have heard of shots being fired in air during weddings etc anywhere but for Delhi & other northern regions where carrying a firearm is more of an accessory than necessity.
However mods, if you think this has gone way out of its relevance, i would not deliberate on this any further.

AMK can you please tell me that if we have a License to Keep a Rifle for self Defense (for Say) then cant we carry it in a public place if it is visible, as our License dosnt states that its For Display but it says that its for self protection only.

Dodger,

Defense means being able to protect yourself and in laws somewhere its assumed that it means necessarily being at your place :-) or at your fields.

Shadow,
your point is right and that is where CCW comes into the scene, Concealed so that you don't create unnecessary anxity in the poor gunnophobics and yet all geared to take care of miscreants.

CCW should be a right if the government can't get rid of all darra types gun in circulation, and can't provide ample security for the innocent tax payer who is trying to support his/her family and live a peaceful life.

All crimes are (98%) commited by country made guns, or illegal arms. I think this is about time we should be given right to take care of our life for the sake of fairness.

AFAIK in MP its not a problem to carry your weapon openly ;-) as my Cousins carry their arms openly in the markets and such places, but not even once in my Notice they were interfered by any Cop .. still i wanna know that is it legal if we do so?
